Instant Pot Oatmeal with Banana Split Topping
Instant Pot Oatmeal with Banana Split Topping is a fun breakfast treat to make! The oatmeal recipe is made with steel cut oats, honey and vanilla almond milk and it cooks quickly in the Instant Pot. The kids will love waking up to their oatmeal topped with Nutella, strawberries, banana, chocolate chips and whipped cream!

Since the kids are at home now and we are not rushed in the morning, I have been cooking a lot more for breakfast. Today I made a Vegetarian Breakfast Casserole with mock Strawberry Mimosas for a real treat! Earlier this week, I had some fun jazzing up a simple Instant Pot Oatmeal recipe with Banana Split Topping, which was a huge hit!
It has been fun to take time each day and really enjoy a family breakfast. When we are busy, I rarely make a breakfast, let alone break out the Instant Pot. However, after making the Instant Pot Oatmeal with Banana Split Topping, I know it will be doing it more often. It was so quick and easy to make!

What do I need to make the Instant Pot Oatmeal with Banana Split Topping?
I used just 8 ingredients in this delicious breakfast recipe. Here is what you will need:
- Vanilla Almond Milk
- Steel Cut Oats
- Honey
- Nutella
- Strawberries
- Banana
- Chocolate Chips
- Whipped Cream
The only other thing you will need is an Instant Pot!
How do I make the Instant Pot Oatmeal?
There are just 2 steps to making this fun breakfast treat. It doesn't get much easier than this!
Step 1: Cook the Steel Cut Oats
Add the vanilla almond milk, steel cut oats and honey to the inner pot of the Instant Pot. Set it to manual pressure at 4 minutes. Allow pressure to build, which might take up to 10 minutes. Then, you will see the timer count down for 4 minutes. When time has elapsed, do a quick release of the pressure.
Step 2: Serve and Add Toppings
When the pressure is released, remove lid and give the oatmeal a good stir.
Would you like to save this?
Place the oatmeal in bowls, add toppings and serve hot! That is it, a tasty hot breakfast in less than 20 minutes!

Is there another way to cook the oatmeal in the Instant Pot?
Yes! In fact, depending on your pot, there is a potential to get the dreaded "burn" message. This happens to me occasionally with things like oatmeal or pasta. So, the Pot in Pot method is a way to avoid that from happening.
How do I do the "Pot in Pot" method?
Here is what you will need to do:
-
Place the almond milk, steel cut oats and honey in a bowl or pot that will fit inside the electric pressure cooker liner and stir well.
-
Place trivet in the liner and pour the minimum required amount of water (as noted by the manufacturer into the bottom of the pressure cooker liner).
-
Put the bowl or pot containing the oatmeal mixture on the trivet, cover and turn the valve to sealing.
-
Set pressure cooker to manual for 6 minutes. After cooking cycle is complete, allow to naturally release for 10 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure
-
Carefully remove the bowl or pot from the pressure cooker liner. Stir oatmeal well and serve with toppings.

Can I store the Instant Pot Oatmeal?
Yes, you can store the oatmeal without the toppings in a covered container in the refrigerator for 3 days. It can be warmed back up in the microwave. However, the oatmeal is best eaten immediately after being cooked.
Here is another Instant Pot favorite!
Do I have to use Almond Milk?
No, you can use any kind of milk you enjoy! I just happened to have Vanilla Almond Milk on hand. If you use plain milk, add in a teaspoon of vanilla for flavor.

Ingredients
- 4 cups Vanilla Almond Milk
- 1 cup Steel Cut Oats
- ¼ cup Honey
Toppings:
- Nutella
- Strawberries
- Banana
- Chocolate Chips
- Whipped Cream
Instructions
- Add vanilla almond milk, steel cut oats and honey to Instant Pot inner pot.
- Set manual pressure to 4 minutes.
- After pressure cooking time has elapsed, do a quick release, stir and dish up into bowls.
- Top with Nutella, strawberries, bananas and whipped cream. and enjoy!
Pot in Pot Method (because oatmeal tends to give a "burn" notice, this is a great method to try!)
- Place all ingredients in a bowl or pot that will fit inside the electric pressure cooker liner and stir well.
- Place trivet in the liner and pour the minimum required amount of water (as noted by the manufacturer into the bottom of the pressure cooker liner).
- Put the bowl or pot containing the oatmeal mixture on the trivet, cover and turn the valve to sealing.
- Set pressure cooker to manual for 6 minutes. After cooking cycle is complete, allow to naturally release for 10 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure
- Carefully remove the bowl or pot from the pressure cooker liner. Stir oatmeal well and serve.
