What do I need to make the Blueberry Infused Water with Basil?

There are just 3 things that you will use for this refreshing, light flavored water.

Blueberries:  Blueberries are one of the most nutrient dense berries and they contain a high amount of antioxidants. Fresh blueberries are muddled in a glass before the water is added, which gives it a boost of all natural sweetness.

Basil: Basil is an herb from the mint family that is widely used in cooking due to it’s distinctive flavor.  Adding a few aromatic leaves to this flavored water recipe counters the sweetness of the blueberries while giving the drink a fresh scent!

Water: I prefer using fresh, filtered water to make this beverage. However, it could easily be made with unflavored carbonated water. Or, a lemon seltzer water would also work well if you are looking for a little more flavor.

Mason Jar: A Mason Jar works well to make the infused water because it has a large opening to add the berries and muddle them. It is also convenient to store in the refrigerator and enjoy the drink straight out of the jar when it is ready! However, you could use a glass pitcher as well and then pour it into a regular water glass as pictured here.

Muddler:  A muddler is a kitchen tool often used in making cocktails. It is used to press the blueberries up against the side if the glass to release their natural flavors. When muddling the fruit, do it gently taking care to not pulverize the berries. No muddler? No problem! Simply use the back of a wooden spoon for this step.

How do I make the Blueberry Water with Basil?

There are just 2 simple steps to prepare this infused water recipe. Here is what you will need to do:

Step 1: Muddle the Blueberries

Rinse the blueberries in a colander and add them to a 32 ounce Mason jar or pitcher. Muddle the blueberries by gently pressing them up against the side of the container with a muddler or wooden spoon. This will release the berries natural juices.

Step 2: Add the Water and Fresh Basil Leaves

Next, add in 24 ounces of fresh, filtered water. Then, stir in basil leaves. Place in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to infuse. When ready, pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!

Pro Tip: It is important to regularly replace the refrigerator water filter so that water is ice cold when you use it!
