It’s the Friday Five and with triathlon season starting up, I am sharing 5 fun reasons to do a Triathlon! Here they are:
1. Friends: I have met some wonderful friends through triathlon training. A long run with good friends is my “Happy Hour” or a 50 mile bike ride with the girls is my Saturday “Shopping Spree”.
2. Endorphins: Endorphins reduce the sensation of pain and can elevate emotions. Ahhhh….nothing and I mean Nothing alleviates stress better for me than a good hard long run!!
I even managed a smile on the 70.3 Quassy Run Course, thanks to endorphins!
3. “Smelling the Roses”: A long bike ride is often an opportunity to stop and “smell the roses”. Biking gives me a chance to enjoy the outdoors and slowly take in some of the beautiful scenery here in Maine.
I stopped to “smell the roses” and view the Fall Foliage at the Dempsey Challenge and I ran into McDreamy himself!
4. Food: I love to eat! Endurance training allows me to occasionally indulge in some wonderful higher calorie meals, guilt free!
Lobster and Asparagus Cream Sauce over Pasta, prepared by my Husband after I did a 16 mile run!
5. Bling: Competing in Triathlons & Marathons over the past 5 years has brought a lot of Bling into my life! My most prized medal is the one below from Ironman Mont Tremblant last Summer (2015). You may notice my broken shifter next to it, which is another story you can read about *here*
After a very difficult triathlon season last Summer complete with a bad bike accident, writing this post was so refreshing. It reminded me of the many things I love about the sport and has me eager for this season.
Have you ever done a triathlon? If not, would you like to? I would love to hear your thoughts, so please comment below!
One last thing: I do have a giveaway running through this Sunday (May 1, 2016) at midnight for a full jar of Amazing Grass Protein Superfood, so please check out this post for more information and for some awesome smoothie recipes!
Have a Fantastic Friday!

OMG you met mcdreamy?!?! That's awesome! I'm doing my first tri in 3 weeks (ahhh!!!) and I'm really excited and also super nervous! Although I'm sure it won't be my last :)
Yes & he was very nice! :-) Good Luck on your first Tri! I bet you will have a BLAST!!!
I am not a big biker and do not like to swim but I surely like to indulge. This would definitely give me a reason to. Now you got me thinking.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness
Haha Lacey!!! They are a lot fun for sure :-)
still love that pic of you and patrick dempsey! :)
Me too! I have to look at it every now & then as it always makes me smile :-)
Great list. I really enjoyed my first triathlon last year and want to do one again. Right now holding off though because want to make sure I'm ready to devote the time to training all 3 pieces, which I know I can't swing right now in life.
John- I'm so glad you enjoyed your first triathlon! The training is time consuming for sure..You are smart to wait until you can devote the time for it. I'm struggling with that right now!!
I haven't done a tri and I don't think I could. I wouldn't mind riding trails, but riding on roads makes me panicky. Plus I can't swim except for backstroke, breaststroke, and doggy paddle. Haha.
I am a little nervous riding on the roads as well, but once I am out there I relax a bit! You would be surprised at all the different strokes you see people swimming at a tri!! I have seen backstroke a number of times!
Well of course I agree with this! my first race of the season is in 4 weeks have to get on those bricks
Hope your training is going well! I look forward to reading about it!!
Hi Angela! I'm Angela too! I've never done a triathlon but I could be convinced if it means I could meet McDreamy! ? I'm not a strong swimmer so that part scares me.
Hi Angela! Great name ;-) Meeting McDreamy was definitely a very happy spot :-)
I have so much respect for anybody participating in an Ironman. I think - at least for me - Swimmming 2 miles is the hardest part. Good for you Angela to take on such great challenges! Way to Go!
Thanks so much Ilka!
I think people who compete in triathalons and ironmans are AMAZING! I don't like swimming or running - so I'll probably never do them, but kudos to you!!
The only reason I won't do one is the swimming but I've seen some with canoeing and kayaking so I might have to try one of those.
have never done one and really have no desire to do one, but i would love to cheer at one someday. or maybe volunteer to work one.
Ah McDreamy! He is still such a cutie and I've heard about this ride-how fun
One day I'm going to do this. I just know it.
Gahhhh, a triathlon sounds so daunting!
