This sweet potato casserole with a praline topping is delicious during the fall season and for holidays. The nuts are a great crunchy bite and using pralines makes for a lighter recipe than those that call for marshmallow toppings!

I don’t know abut you, but October just flew right by for me! I can not believe that Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away now. We will be hosting this year for fourteen, so I am starting to organize the menu now. I like to make some of the recipes in advance as a trial run before Turkey day. This week I am making the kid’s favorite side dish: Sweet Potato Casserole with Praline Topping. I see a lot of versions of this with marshmallow topping, but that is a lot of sweetness, so this version is a bit lighter.

To Make the Sweet Potato Casserole with Praline Topping
First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare an 8×8 baking dish by coating it with butter or cooking spray. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into big chunks. Place them in a large pot, cover with water and bring water to a boil on cooktop. Then, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. When the sweet potatoes are tender, drain water and place in a large bowl and mash them.
Next, prepare the praline topping by combining flour, brown sugar, pecans, butter, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Mix the ingredients for the praline topping until well combined.
Mix 1 cup of the praline flour mixture into the sweet potatoes.
Then, stir in sugar, vanilla, egg and evaporated milk.
Next, place the sweet potato mixture in the baking dish and top with remaining praline mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until top begins to lightly brown. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
How many people will this Sweet Potato Praline Casserole serve?
This dish serves approximately 8 people. It is easy to double it for a large crowd and place in a 13 x 9 dish, which is what I do for large family dinners like Thanksgiving.
Can I prepare the Sweet Potato Praline Casserole ahead of time?
Absolutely! This can be prepare a day or two ahead of time. Then, just cover it with aluminum foil and pop it in the oven to warm it up before serving. It can also be warmed up in the microwave.
