How Do I Make Citrus Flavored Homemade Gummies?

Once you have your ingredients ready to go, you can start making your gummies. Follow these simple instructions for preparing your DIY gummy bears:

Step One: Combine the Ingredients

Combine ½ cup of water with one of the juices in a small sauce pan. Add half the honey and half the gelatin and stir to combine.

Step Two: Heat the Gelatin

Heat the ingredients over medium heat until it comes to a boil. After that, remove the pan from heat and allow to rest and cool for five minutes.

Step Three: Pour into Molds

After the mixture has cooled slightly, pour the mixture into your gummy bear molds. Let the molds set for around 20 minutes to solidify, then pop the gummy bears out of the molds and enjoy.

Step Four: Make Another Flavor

Repeat the process for the second flavor, then combine the two flavors to enjoy a mix of citrus gummy bears.

How do you make gummies firmer?

Allowing your homemade gummies to cool at room temperature is a simple way to finish the recipe. But if your home is warm or humid, you may have issues with your gummies becoming firm. If that’s the case, simply chill the gummy bears in the refrigerator.

After the gummy mixture has cooled, carefully transfer the molds to the refrigerator to chill. When the bears are cold, pop them out of the mold.

To further firm up your gummy bears, spread the finished gummies in an even layer on a large pan. Allow them to rest at room temperature, giving the air in the room a chance to dehydrate the gummies and firm them up.

How long do homemade gummies last?

When stored properly, your homemade citrus gummies will last up to five days. To help keep them fresh, store your gummy bears in an air tight container at room temperature. Make sure they’re placed in a cool, dry spot (like in a cabinet or pantry) to help keep them firm and intact. You can also store your gummies in the refrigerator to keep them firm.

This recipe is so simple to make, which means even the kids can get involved in the fun. And since it’s so easy, you can adjust it to your family’s tastes. Try these recipe ideas the next time you make gummies at home:

Try different juice flavors. One of the easiest ways to adjust your recipe is to use different flavors of juice. Since this recipe for citrus gummies uses fresh juice, it’s important to pay attention to the amount of added sugar in store-bought juice. If you substitute fruit juice with added sugar, mixing in honey may not be necessary. Try these different juice flavors in your next batch of homemade gummies:

  • Pineapple juice
  • Apple juice
  • Grape juice
  • Kiwi strawberry
  • Fruit punch
  • Cherry
  • Mango
  • Berry blend

Make them in a pan. Using a gummy bear mold is a great way to achieve the look of the classic candy. But you don’t have to have a silicone mold to make this recipe. If you don’t have a mold, simply pour the gelatin mixture into an 8×8 pan. Allow the gelatin to set, then cut the gummy into bite-sized cubes to eat them.

Try your favorite sugar-free sweetener. If you’re looking for a vegan or low-carb option for your citrus gummies, substitute the honey in the recipe for your favorite sugar free sweetener, like stevia. Start by adding one tablespoon of your sweetener, then taste the mixture. Continue adding more as needed until the desired amount of sweetness is reached.

Add some cooking spray. Homemade gummies can be pretty sticky. If you find that your gummy bears are sticking to your silicone mold after they’re set, try spraying the mold with nonstick cooking spray before pouring the gelatin in. Spray the mold with spray, then wipe away any excess oil from inside the mold with a paper towel. After that, you can pour the gelatin mixture directly into the mold. The spray will make it easier to pop the gummy bears out of the mold after they’re set.
