Step Two: Bake the Mixed Nuts

Spread the nuts in an even layer over a large baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 25 to 28 minutes, making sure to stir the nuts often to prevent them from burning. Once the cook time is up and the nuts are fragrant, remove the pan from the oven and allow the nuts to cool before serving.

Tips & Tricks for Oven Roasted Nuts

Since this recipe is so simple to make, you can easily adjust it to make it work for you. With these tips and tricks, you can create a delicious snack to enjoy at your next party with just a few minutes of prep work.

  • Add some salt. Before mixing your nuts with the oil and spices, check to make sure your mixed nuts are already salted. If they’re unsalted, it’s a good idea to mix some salt into your bowl along with the other ingredients to enhance the flavor.
  • Use dried dill. While fresh dill adds a ton of flavor to your nut mix, you can substitute dried dill if you don’t have any fresh sprigs on hand. Keep in mind that dried dill has more concentrated flavor than fresh dill, which means you won’t need as much to season your nuts. Use around one teaspoon of dried dill in place of one tablespoon of fresh dill.
  • Make your own nut mix. Using prepackaged mixed nuts is a great way to speed up the prep work on this recipe. But you can easily make your own nut mix by combining a variety of different nuts together to create a unique recipe. The seasoning on these roasted nuts pairs well with most nut types, so you can include any nuts you want! Try mixing together peanuts, almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts, Brazil nuts, and macadamia nuts into your roasted snack.
  • Use a single type of nut. Instead of creating your own nut mix, you can also use a single nut variety for this recipe. Just pick your favorite nuts, toss them in the oil and seasoning, and bake them according to the recipe instructions.
  • Add some seeds. There’s no reason you have to stick to nuts to make this recipe! Mixing in some of your favorite seeds is a great way to add even more flavor to your snack mix. Sunflower seeds or pepitas (pumpkin seeds) make great additions to this savory snack recipe.
  • Substitute butter. Olive oil is a flavorful option for your mixed nuts, but you can also add some richness to your roasted nuts with the help of butter. Melt your butter, then mix it with the nuts and seasoning to add some delicious fats to your nut mix.

How Do You Store Roasted Nuts?

Once your nuts are roasted, they’ll stay fresh for several days. Make sure your nuts are cooled completely, then transfer them to an airtight container. When they’re stored in a cool, dry place, like a cabinet or pantry, your roasted mixed nuts will stay fresh for up to two weeks.

Are Roasted Nuts Bad for You?

Nuts are a healthy snack that are packed with protein and fiber. And while roasting your nuts in olive oil will add more fat and salt to the nuts, they’re still a delicious and healthy snack to enjoy.
