How Do I Make This Valentine Cookie Recipe?

On top of having a short ingredient list, this simple valentine recipe is also quick to make. That’s because there’s no rolling, chilling, or decorating involved in making these easy treats! All you have to do is follow these four quick steps to make your own cookies right now.

Step One: Prepare the Cookie Dough

To make the cookie dough for these monster cookies, start by combining the butter, sugar, brown sugar, and peanut butter in a medium bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients together on medium speed until they’re well combined. Then, add the eggs and vanilla to the bowl and mix until incorporated. After that, place the flour and baking soda into the mixture. Mix the dry ingredients into the dough on low until combine, making sure not to overmix the ingredients. Finish by folding the oats into the dough.

Step Two: Add the Chocolate

Once your monster cookie dough is ready, it’s time to add some candy. Add the pink and red M&Ms to the bowl, along with the chocolate chips. Stir the ingredients into the dough until it’s well mixed.

Step Three: Bake the Cookies

Use a cookie scoop to scoop out the dough and roll it into a ball. After placing the dough on the baking sheet, use fork to slightly flatten the top of each cookie. Place the cookies around two inches apart on the baking sheet to give them plenty of room to spread as they cook. Place the baking sheet in the oven and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges of the cookies are golden brown.

Step Four: Decorate the Cookies

Once the cookies are finished baking, allow them to cool on the baking sheet for two minutes. To decorate the top of your cookies, lightly press more M&Ms into the top of each cookie while they’re still warm. After that, you can transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely before eating.

Valentine’s Day Cookie Recipe Tips

You won’t believe how simple it is to make these fun chocolate chip monster cookies for Valentine’s Day! And with the help of these baking tips, you can create a delicious snack for your family with just a few minutes of prep work in the kitchen.

  • Bake with unsalted butter. Using salted butter is a great way to balance out the sweetness of these candy filled treats. But if you don’t have any salted butter on hand, you can also use unsalted in this recipe. If you plan to use unsalted butter, add ¼ teaspoon salt to the cookie dough.
  • Try creamy peanut butter. You’ll love the salty crunch that crunchy peanut butter adds to these chewy cookies. But if you’re not a fan of peanut pieces in your cookies, you can use creamy peanut butter instead.
  • Don’t forget to flatten. Pressing down the top of your cookies results in a flatter, chewy cookie. If you don’t take the time to flatten the top of your cookie balls, your valentine cookies may end up too thick and undercooked. If you prefer a thicker cookie, lightly press the top of the cookie down. But if you want your cookies to be thin, press them down further and wider.
  • Mix in more candy. The combination of M&Ms and chocolate chips is the perfect amount of sweetness in these cookies. But if you want even more flavor, try mixing in some other treats like chopped peanuts, sprinkles, chopped candy bars, peanut butter cups, mini chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips.

How Do I Store These Valentine M&M Cookies?

Once you’re finished enjoying your Valentine’s Day snack, you may have a few cookies leftover. Store the extras in an airtight container to ensure they stay fresh until you’re ready to eat them again. Your cookies can be kept at room temperature for up to four days when stored properly.

Can I Freeze Monster Cookies?

In addition to storing your baked cookies at room temperature, you can also freeze the cookie dough and bake them later. Start by preparing the dough according to the recipe instructions. After that, scoop the dough into balls and place the dough balls on a baking sheet. Store the baking sheet in the freezer until the cookie dough balls are frozen solid. Then, you can transfer them to a freezer bag for storage.

When you’re ready to bake the cookies, remove the bag from the freezer and allow the cookie dough to come to room temperature. After that, bake them according to the recipe instructions.
