Reentry is Tough!

Happy Sunday, I hope you had a good week! I don’t know about you, but reentry after the holidays was particularly rough this year. I think it mainly had to do with being away from home the week after Christmas. We headed to one of our favorite places, Walt Disney World, on the 26th to have some fun and ring in the New Year with family. It was a blast…minus the 2 days my son & I had a stomach bug and were stuck inside close to a bathroom!  We rallied as best we could and were back to ourselves for New Year’s Eve! It was so special to be there and celebrate with family. The fireworks at midnight were magnificent!! Check out my video of them >HERE< on Instagram. Overall, it was hard to leave warm sunny Florida to head back home, but we had a safe trip back and dove right into our busy schedules!

I did take a break from scheduled training by my coach for the week we were at Disney and this past week. I knew it was unrealistic for me to be doing 2+ hour trainer rides and long swims, as I would be squeezing things in as best as I could when and where I could do them. It was a good decision and right now I am so excited about getting back to a structured regimen this coming week! However, I was able to put forth a good effort over the past week! Here is what I got in:

Monday: I did a slooowww 3 miles on the treadmill before work. It was painful, some days I can run and run on the treadmill and other days, I want to stab my eyes out with a fork after a minute. It was an eye stabbing day. I finished up with 10 minutes of core work… I’m on a mission to get rid of my “Baby Belly” this year, especially since my baby is 7 1/2 years old 🙂

Tuesday: First, I am just going to point out that I had no scheduled training to follow. However, I summoned up every ounce of motivation I had and put my butt on my bike and road for 2 hours on my trainer! I’m not going to lie, the first 30 minutes sucked, but then I was determined to do what I had set out to do! I managed to virtually ride a little over 33 miles on the Ironman Lake Placid course. It really felt good! I finished up with a 1 mile run and 20 minutes of core work.

Wednesday: I do a swim technique class on this day, but there was a 2 hour delay due to icy roads for many schools in my area. I ended up being the only one who showed up, as my kid’s did not have the delay. The teacher was happy to do a one on one training with me, but I told her to go grab a coffee instead! I decided to get in and do a long swim, so I did 5x 500 yards, which is the longest I have swam in months. The first 500 yards were painful, but each one got easier!  I had the pool to myself for most of it, so that was pretty awesome. Also, I got to test out my new Nike Apple watch that my husband surprised me with for Christmas.  I was nervous to get it wet, but it was precise measuring my distance in the water, I am definitely impressed with it!

Thursday: After my painful treadmill run on Monday, I forced myself outside into the very cold & windy weather for a 3 miler. I have to admit, this was the best thing I could have done! Once I got going, I was fine and I love the Mizuno winter tech shirt that I am sampling! You can read my review of it >>HERE<< . I finished up with 20 minutes of core work…feeling determined! 🙂

Friday: I did a 1 hour recovery bike ride on my trainer and more core work.

Saturday: I know most people do their long runs and bike rides on the weekend, but it never works for me. I am putting this in writing here, because I always attempt it, but it does not work. My kids are super busy on the weekends, often in 2 different places at the same time! So, I thought I would do a 6-7 mile run, but I ended up only having time for 3. Lesson learned. Again. However, I creatively got my core work in at my son’s 7:30am hockey practice…haha!

Sunday: I spent the day taking down the Christmas decoration in between my son’s hockey games. I did manage to get in a total of 30 minutes of core work  throughout the day! I also caught up on my blogging! After a 2 week break, the Sunday Fitness & Food Link-Up is back. This week I shared my recipe for Roasted Buffalo Cauliflower and Healthy Ranch Dip.  If you have a food or fitness post you would like to share, the link-up is open all week & we would love to have you 🙂

I am so looking forward to getting back into my Ironman Training this week! How was your week? Were you able to bounce back after the holidays? How do you fit it all in? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks so much for stopping by!

I am linking up with Tricia and Holly for the Weekly Wrap!

It always feels good to get back into a routine, that was my focus too! Good luck with your training!

I need to get back on a training plan, but I've been enjoying a few weeks of just doing what I feel like doing. Sounds like you are doing well, despite the craziness. (And I can never manage a long workout on the weekends either)

Sorry you had a rough run like that. Those are the worst.

I'm also SO sorry you were sick on vacation. Norovirus has been spreading through Florida like wildfire. I'm glad you guys rallied and were able to enjoy the end of the trip.

The worst part of starting up again after the holidays was the cold snap. We just aren't used to those freezing temperatures, and it makes it really awful to get out of bed. It should be getting better and summer will be here soon enough (like probably in the next two weeks).

Oh Gosh.....the treadmill IS painful. Mine is stationed in our mud room, right under a heat vent, looking out onto our deck. No TV to distract me, and sometimes I can barely hear my music. It's such a robotic (and unnatural) kind of motion for me...and it messes with my form/stride, so I simply avoid it most of the time (this past week or so has been a major exception LOL)
