How Do I Make Chocolate Crinkle Cookies?

While these cookies may look complicated, they’re actually very easy to make. In fact, you only need to follow four simple steps to prepare them for your family today:

Step One: Combine the Dry Ingredients

Start by combining the cocoa powder, flour, and baking powder in a medium bowl. Whisk the ingredients together, then place them in a sifter. Sift until the mixture is smooth and all the lumps are removed, then set the dry ingredients aside.

Step Two: Prepare the Dough

In a separate bowl, beat together the butter and granulated sugar with a hand mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined. After that, add the flour mixture a little at a time, beating between each addition. When the dough is well combined, add the chocolate chips and stir gently until the chocolate is evenly distributed throughout the dough. Be careful not to overmix the dough as you’re stirring in the chocolate chips.

Step Three: Chill the Cookie Dough

After the dough is thoroughly mixed, cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least two hours. The dough can be kept in the refrigerator overnight, if needed.

Step Four: Bake the Cookies

When you’re ready to start baking, preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Remove the cookie dough from the refrigerator and use a cookie scoop to form the dough into balls. Scoop out the dough and roll it between your hands to create a smooth ball. But if you’re worried about the powdered sugar melting as your cookies bake, there’s one important step you can take to prevent that from happening – chill your dough. One of the best ways to keep your sugar coating from disappearing while the cookies bake is to make sure your cookie dough is properly chilled before rolling it in the sugar.

Crinkle cookie dough needs to be chilled for at least two hours to give the ingredients time to meld. The chilling time is also essential to giving your cookies the classic crinkle look. That’s because the cold dough helps keep the powdered sugar from soaking into the cookies during the bake time.

But if you’ve chilled your dough and your powdered sugar is still melting, there’s another step you can take to help protect the sugar as the cookies bake. You should probably add in the dry ingredients insteuction not to add the sugar because I considered that a dry ingredient and when I got to the next step it says to mix the butter and sugar until fluffy..
