How do I make the pancakes in a jar?

There are just five simple steps to making this tasty breakfast treat.

Step 1: Put the milk, egg and oil in a 32 ounce jar. Put the lid on tight and shake until well mixed. This is what my kids love doing, just make sure that lid is on good and tight!

Step 2:  Add the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt to the jar with the egg mixture. Put the lid back on and shake vigorously, for about 2 minutes, or until everything is well combined.

Step 3: Lightly oil a griddle or frying pan and heat to a medium temperature. Pour the batter onto the griddle using about ¼ for each pancake.

Step 4: When the edges of the pancake look dry and the bubbles on the surface begin to pop, flip over.

Step 5: Once the pancakes are flipped, cook for another 2 to 3 minutes or until they are lightly browned on both sides.

Serve hot with butter, syrup and your favorite fruit if desired!

Can I add fruit to the pancake mix?

Sure!  If I want to add fruit like bananas, strawberries or blueberries to the pancakes, I add them in once I have poured the batter onto the griddle. If you are adding in bananas or strawberries, make sure to slice them very thinly. Then, just put a few on top of each pancake once the batter is poured onto the griddle.

What about adding chocolate chips or sprinkles?

If I am adding chocolate chips, I do it the same way as I do with fruit, put them on top of batter when I pour it onto the pan. For sprinkles, I add it to the batter after it is all mixed and give it another quick shake in the jar.

How should I serve the pancakes?

I like to serve them hot with butter, syrup and sliced fruit on the side. My kids enjoy them with a sprinkle of confectioner's sugar or whipped cream on top.

How do I store the pancakes?

This recipe is for a small batch, so typically I don't have any leftovers! However, they can be stored on a covered dish or in a container for 2 to 3 days, then rewarmed in the microwave. Keep in mind they are best hot off the griddle!

  3. I was just thinking of a creative way to get my daughter up in the morning to get started with homeschool. She LOVES cooking - and although we've made pancakes and the like together before - we've never done it in a jar! She'll love this idea! So clever. And fruits added for sure! Yum!!

  7. I consider myself to be a good cook however I find pancakes to be challenging. About halfway through the batch they start to get better.
  8. Such a neat idea! We have not done this in a jar per se as you describe here, BUT we do have a plastic squirty pancake batter thingy for camping trips that is basically the same principle - put dry ingredients in before you leave home, add wet ingredients in camp and shake/squirt the batter.
  9. This is such a fun way to get my son involved in cooking! Also, who doesn’t love some yummy pancakes for breakfast? This is such a great recipe.
