HOW DO I MAKE THIS APPLE DUMP CAKE?
This Apple Dump Cake is so simple to make! There are just 4 steps to preparing this family favorite fall dessert!
STEP 1: PREP THE PAN AND PREPARE THE CAKE MIX
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×11 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake mix, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Set aside.
STEP 2: ADD INGREDIENTS TO THE PAN
Pour both cans of apple pie filling into the baking dish. Sprinkle the cake mix mixture over the top of the apples in an even layer. Spread the melted butter over the cake mix.
STEP 3: PREPARE THE TOPPING
In a small bowl, combine the oats and brown sugar. Sprinkle the oats over the top of the cake mix and butter.
STEP 4: BAKE, COOL, AND DEVOUR!
Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
HOW DO I SERVE THE APPLE DUMP CAKE?
I like to serve it hot out of the oven with ice cream or whipped cream. However, it is enjoyable cold or at room temperature as well. If you need to reheat the dump cake, it can be covered with tin foil and reheated in the oven on low heat until warmed through. Individual servings can be heated up in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds.
DO I NEED TO REFRIGERATE DUMP CAKE?
Yes, once you are done baking the cake and let it cool, it can be covered and refrigerated. It should be airtight, and it will last in the refrigerator for up to 4 or 5 days.
CAN I USE OTHER FRUIT?
Yes, you can swap out the apple pie filling for another kind if you want. Keep in mind the spices may not go with every kind of pie filling. Peach pie filling and cherry pie filling would both be pretty terrific with this recipe.
CAN I USE DIFFERENT FLAVORED CAKE MIX?
Absolutely! We love the flavor of the yellow cake mix, but there are many other options that would be yummy. White cake mix and French vanilla cake mix are great choices to try out. You can also use a spice cake too. If you do decide to go with a spice cake, I recommend cutting the other spices in half, so the flavor isn’t overwhelming.
IS IT OKAY TO ADD NUTS?
Yes! Adding nuts is a tasty way to add some crunch. I recommend using chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds or even a combo of all three. Add 1/4 – 1/2 cup of nuts on top or in the cake mix.
