Baked Pears and Cheese with Blueberries Pin

Fall has arrived here in New England brining cool, crisp mornings and chilly evenings. I love this time of year! One of my favorite things about Autumn, besides the beautiful foliage is the seasonal produce available, like fresh pears.

I love adding fresh sliced pears to Charcuterie Boards because they pair well with nuts, cheeses and other fruits. I also enjoy making desserts with pears. The other night I decided to create a pear dessert inspired by foods they go well with on a Charcuterie Platter.  What did I come up with? This delicious Baked Pears and Cheese with Blueberries recipe!

What do I need to make the Baked Pears and Cheese with Blueberries?

This sweet and savory dessert is very easy to prepare with just five ingredients. Here is what you will need:

  • Pears
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Blueberries
  • Honey
  • Rosemary

Kitchen Items Needed:

Pears, blueberries, honey, mozzarella cheese and fresh rosemary on a white countertop.

How do I make the Baked Pears and Cheese?

This pear dessert is so simple to make that I know I will have it on repeat for the rest of the fall season! It comes together in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Preheheat Oven and Prepare Pears Ingredients

First, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, cut the pears in half lengthwise and remove any seeds that you can. Dice up the mozzarella in 1/2 inch cubes. Place ingredients in a heavy cast iron skillet.

Step 2: Bake and add blueberries and rosemary

Bake pears and mozzarella cheese at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and add blueberries. Sprinkle with fresh rosemary. Place back in the oven for 5 more minutes, until pears soften and cheese is melted.

How do I serve this sweet and savory dessert?

I like to serve them warm all by themselves. However, they could also be served with a side of ice cream or topped with a dab of whipped cream adding extra sweetness to this fall inspired dessert.

Can I use a different kind of cheese in this pear recipe?

Yes, there are a variety of different kinds of cheeses that you could experiment with in this recipe.I love the possibilities with this dish! Here are a few pear and cheese pairing suggestions I have in mind:

  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Blue Cheese
  • Gorgonzola Cheese
  • Smoked Gouda

Keep in mind that baking times will vary based on cheese consistency.  The sharp cheddar cheese and smoked gouda can be cut into chunks and prepared similar to this recipe. However, the blue cheese or gorgonzola cheese would be best crumbled and sprinkled on the pears during the last 5 minutes of baking.

What other fruit can I use in this Fall Recipe?

This sweet and savory dish has so many possibilities. I chose to add blueberries because that is what I had on hand, but there are so many variations. Blackberries, raspberries and cherries would be great options! Dried fruit like apricots, cranberries or raisins would also work.
