If you have been following along, you already know that I have embraced what I have learned in the Always Eat After 7PM book. The new concept of intermittent fasting and eating before bed has seriously changed the way that I eat and how I think about planning my meals. If you missed my first 3 posts related to this "revolutinary rule-breaking book, you read them here:

Bestselling author, Joel Marion, is a fitness expert and nutritionist debunking the myths underlying traditional dieting and offers a simple, highly effective weight loss program. Here is a quick clip of him discussing the book:

Always Eat After 7PM: Continuing the Journey

I have loved following this diet for a number of reasons. Of course, one of them is that I am a total night owl as I have mentioned in my other posts. It has been very helpful for me to eat my dinner after 7PM guilt-free, especially since this fits into my family's schedule much better. A favorite dish from the Always Eat After 7PM book of mine is the Chili Loaded Baked Potatoes.

This recipe is so easy to make and absolutely filling and delicious! My entire family enjoys them. With meals like this, I never feel deprived.

Of course, some of my friends are a bit skeptical about this new way of eating. I totally get it, I had not been a big believer in diets before this. After all, we've been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.

So, one quoted fact from the book that I like to share with them is:

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

"Late-night eating also curbs calorie intake the next day. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day."

Wow! That is a significant reduction in calories. As a runner, I equate that to a 4 mile run.

As I mentioned above, I never feel deprived. It is great to be able to eat a little later in the night and even be able to have a dessert to follow! This weekend I made fruit tart recipe from the book and they were so delicious. It was so good to enjoy a treat without feeling like I had wrecked my diet for the day.

  1. This sounds like such a unique diet. I'm amazed as I am reading your posts. As you've mentioned, we are trained that this way of eating doesn't work. It wouldn't work for me, personally, since we eat dinner around 5 since my boys go to bed at 7. But maybe as they get older and are staying up later we can try it.
  2. That is great that the program is working so well for you. Wondering if you are doing fasted runs?
  3. This is so interesting! I wonder if it this theory could different for some people too, and maybe vary with age? I feel like there are a lot of times I do well eating after 7 but sometimes it depends on what it is.
  4. I love hearing everyone's take on the book and the program. I can wait to see progress at the end of summer.
  5. Growing up, we ate at 5 PM. My Dad worked the overnight shift at the local newspaper and had to be at work by 6 PM. Now, my wife wants to eat at 6 PM each night. It's like clock work and she gets kind of upset if dinner isn't on the table around that time. I can see the value of eating later. When I eat around 6 PM, I'm ready to eat again around 8 PM. I try to eat breakfast later in the morning to avoid the mid-morning snack.
