Spending so much time at home recently has led me to do a little extra munching. Unfortunately, the extra snacks along with being more sedentary has also led to some unwanted weight gain. So, I decided last week that it was time to get back on track. As I was perusing the internet for dieting inspiration, I came across this book: Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks-While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion

Eat after 7pm? Doesn't this go against a common rule in every single diet? Well, I was totally intrigued by the idea, so I had to learn more and got the book to read right away!

Why did I choose the Always Eat After 7pm book?

I am a total night owl, so I am typically up late on most nights. Being a night owl combined with my family's busy schedule means we eat dinner on most nights after 7pm. Finally, a diet I may be able to stick to! Here is what Joel Marion, the best-selling author, fitness expert and nutritionist states in the book:

"Having carbs in the evening is also a great weight loss strategy. When you're active, your body burns mainly carbohydrates and muscle glycogen for energy. By eating carbs at night, you allow your body to use them to restore glycogen for energy the next day and provide your body with the glucose it needs to regulate your blood sugar levels during sleep."

How does the Always Eat After 7pm diet work?

Here is another excerpt from the book explaining how the diet works "Always Eat After 7 pm is a three-phase program that teaches you how to lose big by strategically eating big when you are naturally hungriest-in the evening. This may sound too good to be true, but let me assure you it is no gimmick. It's all about making strategic and smart food swaps, and you can still eat your favorite foods."

What is the science behind the book?

Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that speeds up  fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night. Check out this short video clip from the author explaining the science behind the book.

  1. I have not heard of this diet. I think if I weren't an early riser this would probably work for me. But if I eat after about 7:30 at the latest, my tummy is not so happy and it's hard for me to sleep. Having said that, I usually don't eat my biggest meal until dinner which is contrary to what a lot of other people do or encourage. That's just always worked for me so it's what I do!
  2. I try not to base any of my food decisions off of time, but just listening to my hunger cues and whenever is practical for my family. This reduces any stress!
  3. My eating has been all out of whack during this whole situation. Will have to take a look at this one thanks for the review.
  4. This is a book that I must read. I am always up so late to read, work on my blog, and my youtube channel. Always snacking while up so late.
  5. I haven't heard of this before. I love carbs and always find myself "snacky" in the evenings. We would have to change a lot of our schedule, though, if dinner is supposed to be after 7 since my boys go to bed at 7 every night.
  6. This is so interesting - it's the first time I'm hearing about this diet! I've always thought it best to eat as early as possible but I'm definitely going to read more about this.
  7. This book is very trendy and it sounds perfect for diet I'am so interested to check this book to loose my weight awesome.

  10. Ah I have heard a bt about this at the moment...must be the next big thing. I will have to check this out x
  11. Snacking at night is one of my bad habits. I try to eat breakfast at 8AM or later. If I eat earlier I end up eating a second breakfast. We usually eat dinner at 6PM, and by 8PM I'm ready to eat again. I'm not sure I could get the rest of the family to wait until 8PM.
  12. Wait what?! Eat big in the evening? Indeed this sounds too good to be true. Getting the book and I've just followed him on Insta! Trying this one for sure. Because... Lockdown weight gain ha!
  13. This concept of dieting sounds interesting, I love to snack something at evening after I had dinner - usually some fruit. Will definitely check this out. I'm looking for ways to lose weight I gained over the past two months in lockdown.
  14. I hear so much about intermittent fasting lately, which doesn’t quite work for me or my body. This perspective is great to hear!
