Weight Loss Goals: Three Tips for Success

Happy Wednesday, I can not believe that January is already half over! Did you make New Year's Resolutions or goals for 2019? One of the most common resolutions people make for the New Year is to lose weight. However, staying focused on the goal and maintaining the same level of motivation throughout the year can be quite tricky. While some people want to be healthier in order to run or cycle faster, others would like to lose weight to reduce the health risks that are associated with being overweight. Although the two sound alike, they are actually very different goals. Weight Loss Goals: Three Tips for Success focuses on losing weight for the health benefits rather than fitness performance.  Here are a handful of tips to get you started on your weight loss journey as well as a few tricks to keep your motivation in check for even longer.

Weight Loss Goals: Three Tips for Success

#1 Focus on portion control

Your first focus in terms of losing weight should be in the kitchen rather than in the gym. Weight loss often times has a lot more to do with what you eat and how much you eat rather than how many hours you spend exercising each day. In fact, I have a favorite meme that I share on my Facebook page that says "Fitness is 20% exercise and 80% nutrition. You can't outrun your fork!" So, portion control and eating healthy, nutrient dense foods should be a main focus on your weight loss journey.

#2 Keep a diet journal

What you eat and how much you eat of it is easier to keep track of if you write it down in a journal or track it in an app on your phone. You don't necessarily have to figure out how many calories you eat at each meal, though. The main point is to give you a guideline throughout the year and something to help you with accountability and motivation.

On the days when you're feeling deprived, you can always take a look through the journal for inspiration and ideas in terms of what to eat. Take a look a t what days you were most successful and compare what you ate on the days that you may have fallen off track. Also, check out KetoLogic's Beta Hydroxybutyrate recipes as well, and you might be able to find something to keep you going for even longer too!

#3 Find delicious and healthy food

While eating less is one of the biggest factors in losing weight, it's going to be really tough to consume fewer calories if you don't enjoy what you're eating. Fortunately, there are plenty of delicious food options out there! In fact, many restaurants now have low calorie, healthy options to choose from too. There are also some great home delivery meal prep plans for those who are short on time or do not enjoy cooking.

Losing weight is definitely a journey but you'll get there a bit faster as long as you know which areas to focus on. Think about eating less, first of all, and the gym will happen as a natural follow-up.

  1. I have not made a weight loss goal really. Although I do have a goal to try to qualify for the Boston Marathon and to do that I'll have to also make a good effort at really getting to a race weight. I agree about Portion Control. It's crazy how important that is and how easily we can get all out of wack with that. Thanks for sharing.
  2. I totally agree that you cannot exercise off a bad diet. Watching your portions and mixing up your food choices helps a bunch
  3. No weight loss goals, but I'm trying to "lean out" a bit more LOL The simple fasted-cardio in the morning has been my secret weapon. I'm also a huge believer in portion control, especially when eating out. They give one person enough food for three meals, so I usually divide my portions in half and save half of everything for the doggy bag.
  4. I don’t ever track my weight but I do try to be good about paying attention to what I eat and why.
  5. Portion control is what seems to work the best for me. I LOVE food so for me is still enjoying all my favorite foods now and then, but just make sure the portions are correct.
  6. Weight loss isn't one of my goals, but I do work hard to eat well and serve the family healthy meals. Not going to lie, I still love a little bit of junk, but moderation is key :)
  7. I am commenting to let you know what a terrific experience my daughter enjoyed reading through your blog. We are starting diet together, she wants to lose weight, and I need it so I can control my blood sugar, as I am prediabetic. So thank you for this post! We are both motivated to push through with this new way of eating.
