How Do I Make Parmesan Crusted Salmon?

Using my air fryer to cook salmon is one of my favorite ways to prepare this fish. That’s because the air flow inside the fryer helps keep the salmon flaky and moist as it cooks. And when you add a parmesan and garlic crust to the outside of your fillets, you instantly turn plain salmon into an upscale dinner recipe.

Step One: Prepare the Breading

To make the delicious breading for your parmesan salmon, start by stirring together the parmesan cheese, panko breadcrumbs, chives, and lemon zest. After that, add the olive oil and set the bowl aside.

Step Two: Season the Salmon

Before adding the breading to the fish, it’s a good idea to take the time to season each fillet. Start by sprinkling the fish with salt and pepper. Then, stir together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, and minced garlic in a small bowl. Brush each fillet with the butter mixture, generously coating each piece of fish.

Step Three: Dredge the Fillets

Once the salmon is coated in butter, lightly press the tops and sides of each fillet into the breadcrumb mixture.

Step Four: Air Fry the Salmon

Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees and line  with a piece of parchment paper to prevent the salmon from sticking. Place the salmon in the basket and coat each piece with nonstick cooking spray. Cook the fish for 10 minutes, until the crust is golden brown. Time may vary depending on the thickness of the salmon.

Step Five: Make the Wine Sauce

While the salmon is cooking in the air fryer, prepare the sauce by pouring the wine, garlic, chives, cilantro and butter into a medium saucepan. Heat the sauce ingredients over medium heat and allow the sauce to simmer until it’s reduced. Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the cream and continue cooking for an additional three minutes. Serve salmon topped with the white wine sauce.

Parmesan Crusted Salmon Recipe Tips & Tricks

When you make this delicious salmon recipe, you’ll see how quick and easy it is to prepare with the help of your air fryer. Use these baking tips to create a delicious meal for your family tonight.

  • Add more herbs. Take the flavor of your parmesan crust with the help of more fresh or dried herbs. There are a variety of herbs that pair perfectly with the rest of the breading ingredients, including basil, marjoram, dill and oregano.
  • Try more cheese. In addition to parmesan cheese, you can also add some other cheeses to your breading to enhance the flavor. Try blending some grated asiago or pecorino Romano cheese into your breading the next time you prepare this salmon dish.
  • Make it with chicken. This simple breading can also be used to make parmesan crusted chicken. Simply coat boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs with the breading mixture for another easy air fryer meal.

Is it Better to Bake Salmon on Parchment Paper or Foil?

Since salmon is so flaky, it’s a good idea to line your air fryer to keep the salmon from sticking to the basket. But if you’re wondering which makes a better line for cooking salmon – parchment paper or foil – you’ll be happy to know that parchment paper is the best option.

Since parchment paper is so thin, it allows the air to flow through the air fryer more evenly than foil, ensuring that your salmon steams as it cooks. This keeps the fish from becoming dry and overcooked while it bakes.

What Temperature Should I Set My Air Fryer for Salmon?

Making salmon in your air fryer is a quick and easy way to prepare it. And while you can set your fryer to cook at different temperatures depending on the recipe, for breaded salmon, I have found that 350 degrees is the best option. This temperature will give your salmon plenty of time to cook through while also allowing time for the breading to get crispy.
