Happy Friday and welcome to the Friday Five! Today I am sharing Five Tunes to Power Your Run. I have an eclectic taste in music, but for exercise I tend to stick to a lot of Top 40 songs. However, I am also an 80's girl and love tunes from that era as well! I have to admit, I don't always listen to music when I run (and NEVER ever on my bike), but sometimes it can really help pull me through when I am having a hard day!

Five Tunes to Power Your Run

Here are 5 tunes that make me happy & help me pick up the pace:

1. Party Rock Anthem by: LMFAO-I love this song!  When it comes up on my iPod, I always pick up the pace, it is fun, and really gets me moving! I've been known to play it 2 or 3 times in a row on tough runs! 🙂

2.'Til I Collapse by: Eminem- I was never a big Eminem fan, until I came across this Ironman Triathlon Video that had the song "'Til I Collapse" playing in the background. Now, this is one of my favorite motivational songs for long runs or crazy brick runs! Check out the Video, it's 3 minutes & 40 seconds long and very Inspirational!!

3. Billie Jean by: Michael Jackson- So here is where I bring in my love of the 80's 🙂 I am very fond of "Billie Jean", but just about any Michael Jackson gets me moving! I love the beat of "Billie Jean" & "Beat It" as both songs help me pick up my cadence, not to mention the nostalgia that comes into mind as I run along thinking of my former roller skating rink days!

4. Dynamite by: Taio Cruz- Back in 2010, when my daughter was 1, I began to slowly exercise again.  I joined our local YMCA, where they provided 2 hours of free child care a day as long as the parent was doing a fitness related activity. What a life saver that turned out to be!  I started doing step aerobics and swimming again, which eventually led me back to running, then triathlons!  "Dynamite" was a super motivational song that was played often in the aerobics class. Now, when I hear it, it reminds me how far I have come in the past 7 years! I started out only being able to run 2 miles to becoming an Ironman Finisher in that time!!

5. I Will Follow by: U2- U2 is one of my favorite bands of all time and this song is a classic! It is so inspiring and really makes me want to just Go! Go! Go! when I hear it. I actually have a playlist of 20 songs that is called my "Go To List"  for when I am really suffering and this is #1 on the list!

So Tell Me...

What are your Five Favorites? I am always looking for new music to add to my iPod, so I would love to hear from you in the comments section below.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a Great Weekend!

  1. OMG I love all these songs! I listen to most of these already. One time at Marine Corps Marathon I listened to Party Rock Anthem on repeat. It wasn't on purpose (the repeat part) but it sure helped keep me motivated for about 20 minutes!
  2. I always listen to music while I'm working out. I love a lot of eminem songs since they can be so motivating and I love classic rock tunes like TNT or Eye of the Tiger. I try not to listen to songs that make me wanna since lol then I can't workout haha
  3. In recent years, my musical preferences have moved more to the classic rock genre, but I do also have eclectic tendancies...AC/DC, Bon Jovi, U2, some MJ, GunsNroses, Journey, Def Leppard, etc.
  4. I'm always looking for new music to exercise to, so thanks for this inspiration!
  5. I listen to really eclectic music and whenever I post my playlists or songs, people tell me they haven't heard of them! LOL! But I have had that Eminem song on my running playlist. It's a classic. There's a really good song that Carrie Underwood sings called Champion. I think it's so motivating! Fall Out Boy also has a song called Champion that's pretty good too.
  6. I love Billie Jean and Dynamite! I'm a big fan of 90's R&B and pop - think Tootsie Roll, Whoop There It Is, Poison, etc. They're just so fun to run to.
  7. Great choices! I was never an Eminem fan either until I saw 8 miles. And I agree that almost any Michael Jackson song is good for running.
  8. I do still love that LMFAO song too-they were a one of a kind group for sure
  9. What a great list! I actually don't run with music, but I love blasting it in the car!
  10. I love your suggestions. I always had problem when choosing my music for running. I love ed sheeran Shape of you. That was my favorite.
  11. These are great songs to workout to. I don't have a go to mix or certain songs I listen to when I workout but I might add a few of these.
  12. I'm not the biggest fan of Eminem (mainly because I just don't like rap, haha), but I will admit that he does have some really catchy songs! I have a pretty random taste in music, so my playlist is all over the place!
  13. These are all so great! The right music can make all the difference in the world. I haven't been listening to much music on my runs just because we've been talking so much but when I do listen, it's been to The Greatest Showman Soundtrack.
  14. My running playlist is complete without at least one MJ song thrown into the mix. I always seem to get a little extra pep in my step when one of his songs comes on.
  15. I am always up for some new songs. My race playlist though always starts off with the Rocky theme song! Du du du du du du du du du
