Five Fabulous Superfoods to Eat Every Day

Happy Monday, I hope you had a great weekend! It was a beautiful one here in Maine. I got to enjoy a lovely hike with my family on Saturday and a solo bike ride on my favorite route Sunday. I also did some meal prep for the week, as I am working hard to eat healthy.  I made a goal to include five superfoods in my diet every day.

What are Superfoods?

"Superfood" is a term to describe anything edible that is a nutritional powerhouse. These foods contain high amounts of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They may also aid in weight loss and reduce the risk of chronic diseases in individuals that consistently eat them. These nutrient dense foods can help increase one's energy level as well!

Five Fabulous Superfoods

1. Apples- As the old adage goes, "An apple a day...". Apples contain the antioxidant quercetin, which may reduce your risk of lung cancer.

 

2. Pumpkin- I don't mean Pumpkin Spice Lattes... Real pumpkin is loaded with the natural cancer fighting substances alpha and beta carotene. I absolutely love to cook with it, some of my favorite things to make are: pumpkin soup and pasta with pumpkin sauce.

 

3. Bananas-Bananas are loaded with fiber and full of potassium. They are one of my favorite grab and go superfoods!

4. Blackberries- These delicious berries contain more antioxidants than blueberries, cranberries, or strawberries. I frequently add them to salads and smoothies, or just eat them by the handful.

 

5. Chia Seeds- These tiny seeds are a favorite as they can be added to just about anything. They contain high amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, healthy fats, and protein.

  3. YUM! I love these superfoods because they taste so good! I'm so excited for pumpkin & apples this fall
  4. I eat sweet potatoes every single day - so that's.... Kinda the same as eating pumpkin every day, Amiright? LOL!
  5. I always put bananas and chia or hemps seeds in my smoothies. It gets me on the right foot for the day. Definitely need to try these pouches because sometimes I want a smoothie but I don't want to break out the blender.
  6. I would totally try this, except I hate chia seeds, the texture is so wrong for me. Though I do wonder if it's blended well if I could get past that! Superfoods are so important and it's good to ensure we are getting enough.
  7. I love chia seeds, but I have never heard of Shine Organics. I'll definitely be on the lookout for this brand, though!
  8. I was just reading how apples can help with so many things - especially cholesterol! I've had 3 of the 5 today so I'm tickled!! :) Normally it's weirder foods to try to get in. I love the simple, yummy superfoods like these!
  9. Out of all the super foods, my favorite is banana. I normally have one before the gym and one after, it really helps to keep me on a high energy level

  11. I usually eat a banana and/or an apple and some berries every day. I try to get in as much healthy food throughout the day as I can!
  12. I like all of these...except bananas. I developed a nasty aversion to them when I was pregnant with our son, and just cannot eat them anymore (unless they're baked into a bread or muffins).

  15. I eat a banana almost every single morning as a part of my breakfast shake. They are a perfect ingredient to include in them.
  16. was just about to say, not sure if I can eat pumpkin everyday! but in a pouch I can!! I love the flavors of all these superfoods so I know I would love this! need to check it out.
