How Do I Make Mummy Jalapeño Poppers?

These adorable mummy appetizers couldn't be simpler to make! And when you use your air fryer, you can whip them up with just a few minutes of prep work. Just follow these five steps to make your own Halloween jalapeño poppers.

Step One: Prepare the Crescent Roll Dough

Open the crescent roll dough container and unroll the dough, keeping the triangles intact. Pinch each seam together to create a full dough sheet. Then, place the sheet between two pieces of parchment paper and roll it out until it's around ⅛th inch thick. Step Four: Make the Mummies

Use the crescent roll dough strips to wrap each jalapeño to resemble a mummy. Wrap in varying directions, overlapping the dough slightly. Keep in mind that the dough will expand as it bakes, so be careful not to overlap the strips too much. When all the peppers are wrapped in dough, place the egg in a small bowl and beat it until it's smooth. Brush the beaten egg over the top of the dough on each pepper.

Step Five: Air Fry the Jalapeno Poppers

Place the prepared jalapeño poppers in the basket of your air fryer. Set it to cook at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and cooked through. When the mummies are finished cooking, allow them to cool slightly. Then, place two eyes on each jalapeno before serving.

Can I make the Jalapeño Mummy Poppers in the Oven?

Yes! Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with tin foil or parchment paper. Then, simply follow the steps above for creating the Mummy Jalapeño Poppers. Once they are all made, place them on prepared baking sheet. Bake on center rack in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the dough is lightly browned.

How Do You Slice Jalapeños?

Using fresh jalapeño peppers is a must when making jalapeño poppers. But figuring out how to prepare them isn't easy if you've never sliced peppers before. To get your jalapenos ready for stuffing, use these tips and tricks.

  • Wear some gloves. The juices inside jalapeño peppers can be very spicy. To prevent the pepper juice from getting on your skin, it's a good idea to wear some gloves when slicing your jalapeños. Plastic food prep gloves are perfect for protecting your fingers while you slice.
  • Cut the peppers in half. To make jalapeño poppers, you'll need to start by slicing each pepper in half lengthwise. As you cut, do your best to keep the stem intact to make serving and eating your poppers a little bit easier.
  • Remove the seeds and membrane. Once you have your peppers sliced, you'll see that the inside of the jalapeños is filled with seeds. Use the end of your knife or a spoon to scoop out all the seeds. It's also a good idea to remove the white membrane that is holding the seeds in place to help reduce the spiciness of your jalapeño poppers.
  • Rinse the peppers. Once you have all the insides removed, run each pepper under cold water to help clean it and remove leftover seeds. After that, blot the inside of each pepper with a paper towel to remove excess water.

What Can I Use in Place of Candy Eyes?

Putting a couple of candy eyes on top of your peppers is a cute touch. But since candy eyes are sweet, they don't really match the flavors of the appetizer. If you're looking for a savory alternative, try using some sliced black olives or diced red bell peppers as eyes instead.

How Do I Store Mummy Jalapeño Poppers?

After you're finished eating your jalapeño poppers, they will need to be refrigerated. Transfer the leftovers to an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat your jalapeño poppers in the microwave, oven, or air fryer.
