How Do I Make Air Fryer Artichokes?

Using your air fryer to make roasted artichokes is a quick and easy way to prepare a classic appetizer. And the best part is that you can make these delicious and healthy snacks in a matter of minutes. Just follow these four simple steps to make artichokes in the air fryer:

Step 1: Prepare the Artichokes

Before cooking your artichokes in the air fryer, start by trimming the artichoke. Then, cut the heart in half and remove the hairs in the center. After that, coat the inside of the heart in lemon juice to prevent it from browning.

Step 2: Season the Artichoke Hearts

To get your artichokes ready for the air fryer, first brush the inside and outside of each piece with olive oil. After that, season each piece with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 3: Air Fry the Artichokes

Place each piece of the artichoke heart in the basket of your air fryer. Cook the hearts at 350 degrees for four minutes, then remove the basket and flip each piece over. Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for another 4 minutes.

How Do You Cut a Raw Artichoke?

Cooking fresh artichokes is the best way to enjoy these delicious vegetables. But if you’ve never cooked raw artichokes before, figuring out how to cut the vegetable may seem intimidating. Luckily, preparing your artichokes for the air fryer isn’t as difficult as it seems. Just follow these six simple steps:

  • Protect your hands. While none of the artichoke parts are harmful, some of the elements of the vegetable have bitter juice inside. To keep the juice from getting on your hands and getting transferred to other foods, it’s a good idea to wear gloves while cutting the artichokes.
  • Remove the bottom leaves. Pull off the thick outer leaves around the stem of the artichoke, then leave the remaining leaves intact. You can trim the pointed ends of the other outer leaves off, in desired.
  • Trim the ends. Cut off the top ¼ inch of the artichoke. Then, remove the bottom part of the stem, along with any dark parts you see around the bottom of the vegetable.
  • Cut the artichoke in half. Use your knife to slice down the center of the artichoke to cut it in half lengthwise.
  • Remove the hairy choke. Use a spoon or the side of your knife to scoop out the hairy center of each artichoke half. Continue scraping the center of the artichoke until all the hairs are removed.
  • Coat in lemon juice. Use fresh lemon juice to keep the artichoke hearts from browning before they’re cooked. Brush the inside of each artichoke half with lemon juice before seasoning and cooking.

Can You Cook a Whole Artichoke in the Air Fryer?

A whole artichoke can be roasted in the air fryer, but the cook time would need to be increased for the entire vegetable to cook through. That’s why I prefer to cut the artichoke in half before roasting in the air fryer instead of trying to cook the vegetable whole.

How Long to Cook Artichokes in an Air Fryer?

Cooking your artichokes in the air fryer is a quick and easy way to prepare this simple appetizer. But the cooking time will vary depending on the size of your artichokes. Medium artichokes will cook in around 8 minutes, while larger artichokes could take up to 12 minutes to fully cook.

That means you may need to check your artichokes after a few minutes of cooking to ensure they’re properly roasted. One of the best ways to help your artichokes quickly and evenly is to flip them halfway through the cook time. Then, after cooking them for around 8 minutes, use a fork to test their doneness. Your artichokes are ready to enjoy when they’re fork tender.
