What Do I Need to Make White Chocolate Hot Chocolate Bombs?

The combination of sweet white chocolate and fun rainbow sprinkles make these adorable Funfetti hot chocolate bombs the perfect way to celebrate. And the best part about this recipe is that it is so easy to make! Here’s what you need to make your own white chocolate hot cocoa bombs:

  • Round silicone mold: The most important thing you need to make your own hot cocoa bombs at home is a round silicone mold. This mold helps you form the chocolate sphere for your bombs.
  • White chocolate chips: To give these bombs a unique look, I used white chocolate to make the shell.
  • Instant hot chocolate mix: Using instant hot chocolate mix will help add more hot cocoa flavor to your bombs. You can use traditional milk chocolate hot cocoa or white chocolate inside your bombs.
  • Mini rainbow marshmallows: Stick with the Funfetti theme by adding some colorful fruit flavored marshmallows inside your hot chocolate bombs.
  • Rainbow sprinkles: Add to the fun of your hot cocoa bombs with the help of rainbow sprinkles. These cute sprinkles give the bombs the look of Funfetti cake!

How Do I Make This White Chocolate Hot Cocoa Bomb Recipe?

After gathering up your ingredients, you can start putting your white chocolate bombs together. These hot cocoa bombs are so simple to make, they’ll be ready to enjoy in just five simple steps!

Step One: Melt the White Chocolate

To turn your white chocolate chips into hot cocoa bombs, you’ll need to start by melting them. Place the chips in a microwave safe bowl, then heat them on high in 30 second intervals. Make sure to remove the bowl from the microwave after each interval and stir the chips well.

When the white chocolate chips are almost melted, just continue stirring to melt the remaining pieces. This will help you keep from burning the chocolate chips, since white chocolate seems to be a little more temperamental than milk chocolate when it comes to melting.

Step Two: Put the Chocolate in the Molds

Now that the white chocolate is melted, it’s time to start filling your mold. Spoon a small amount of melted chocolate in one of the half-circles. Then, use the back of your spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides until the entire half-circle is covered. Make sure the chocolate is spread evenly and there aren’t any open spaces before moving on to the next mold. But do not completely fill the mold with chocolate. You’ll need to leave some space inside each sphere to add your hot cocoa and marshmallows. Keep filling until you have all the holes filled with chocolate.

Step Three: Fill the Hot Chocolate Bombs

Give the white chocolate time to completely set before adding the filling for your hot cocoa bombs. If you let the chocolate set on the counter at room temperature, it will take at least one hour. You can also place the mold in the refrigerator to speed up the cooling process.

After the chocolate has hardened, you can remove the pieces from the mold. Press carefully on the bottom of the mold to pop the chocolate pieces out. Set half the pieces aside to use as the tops of your hot chocolate bombs.

Pour one tablespoon of hot cocoa mix in each of the remaining chocolate pieces. Top the cocoa with mini rainbow marshmallows.

Step Four: Top the Hot Cocoa Bombs

When all the bombs have been filled with cocoa mix and marshmallows, you can start topping each of the bombs with the remaining chocolate. To do this, you’ll need to remelt your leftover chocolate. Since you’ll be starting with a smaller amount of chocolate, it’s a good idea to melt the leftover chocolate in 15 second intervals, stirring between each interval.

Pick up one of the empty chocolate pieces and dip just the edges in the melted chocolate. Place the piece on top of one of the filled chocolate pieces and lightly press it into place. Use your finger to smooth the seam, if needed.

Step Five: Decorate Your Hot Cocoa Bombs

Now that you have all your hot chocolate bombs topped and ready to go, you can add some Funfetti decorations! Start by placing the remaining melted white chocolate in a piping bag and snipping off the tip of the bag with some scissors. Drizzle the chocolate over the top of each bomb, then spread some rainbow sprinkles over the top of the melted chocolate. Make sure to work quickly as you decorate because the chocolate on top will harden fast!
