Three Diet Hacks for a Healthy New Year

Happy Tuesday and Happy New Year! I actually can’t believe we are a week into 2019 as I am still putting away Christmas decorations! However, I did sit down and write some goals for the New Year. On top of the list is maintaining a healthy and well balanced diet! Of course, I always try to do this, but I’m not perfect as I enjoy the occasional indulgence. There are “healthier’ ways to do this too, so check out these Three Diet Hacks for a Healthy New Year.

Three Diet Hacks for a Healthy New Year

Fruit Smoothie Bowl and Optimum Nutrition products

1. Bring Your Own Snacks!

One thing I have found very helpful in maintaining a healthy diet is to carry along my own snacks. As much as I try to eat regularly, there are times I find myself not having time to stop for lunch or running out the door without breakfast. I discovered Optimum Nutrition snacks at Walmart and they are my secret weapon for warding off hunger while on the run!

I keep a few of the Optimum Nutrition Protein Crisp Bars in my gym bag. I definitely need a little snack after a long swim or strength building session. These bars are perfect as they also have a whopping 20 grams of protein in them. I just love the delicious, crispy texture of these bars.

A few other products I enjoy from Optimum Nutrition are the Amino Energy and Gold Standard Whey. The Amino Energy is perfect for a “pick-me-up” any time of day! It is an easy to mix powder with fruit flavors that has caffeine from natural sources. It has 0 grams of sugar and is only 5 calories per serving! The gluten free Gold Standard Whey is terrific after a hard workout as it includes 24 grams of protein per serving. It is easy to mix with water or any beverage and only contains 120 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 2 grams of sugar!

2. Choose Your Drinks Wisely

I do enjoy my occasional adult beverage, especially on the weekends. However, I try to choose my drinks wisely as I do not want to add hundreds of calories into my diet! I recently discovered Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold at Walmart and really enjoy it! It is a light lager that is brewed without artificial colors or flavors.  I love that it is made with organic grains and has a pure and refreshing taste. It is low in calories, only 85 per serving with just 2.5 grams of carbs. So, this has become my beverage of choice when I choose to imbibe! Enjoy Responsibly!

Banana Bread made with Splenda Naturals Sweetener

3. Cut Back the Sugar

From time to time, I do like a sweet treat, but I have really been trying to cut back on sugar. I was so thrilled to discover Splenda Naturals Stevia at Walmart! It is a great tasting 100% natural stevia product. I feel good about using stevia to replace sugar as it is 100% from nature and it tastes great. Recently, I made my favorite banana bread recipe using it instead of sugar and it turned out delicious. It is easy to use Splenda Naturals Stevia in recipes instead of sugar as it is replaced in equal amounts. For example, the banana bread called for 1 1/2 cups of sugar, so I just used 1 1/2 cups of Stevia! Check out the recipe.

I love banana bread. It took me forever to find a gluten free recipe that was good. I need to make it again.

Your banana bread recipe looks good! I've used applesauce in pancakes before, but never in banana bread. Very clever!

I always carry my own snacks with me everywhere I go. Then it's a bonus if I can actually eat something healthy when I arrive.
