When I sit here and think about this cocktail, my mouth seriously starts to drool. I can't help it because just the thought of sipping on this sour watermelon drink gets me excited. It's one of my ultimate favorites, and unless you don't like things that are sour, it will probably become one of yours too.

I have always been a fan of anything that is watermelon flavored. Whether it's actual watermelon, candies, or even drinks. The great thing about this slush is that it has the best of everything in one drink. It's crisp and refreshing, so on those sultry hot days, you can enjoy one to fight the heat. Plus, it's pretty delicious too. Consider trying out my Watermelon Martinis, Cucumber Melon Vodka Cocktail, and my Sangria too. They are all tasty drinks!

WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE SOUR WATERMELON VODKA SLUSH?

You are just 9 ingredients and a little bit of time away from experiencing one of the best drinks ever. Here is the ingredients you are going to need to make this insanely good drink:

Kitchen Items Needed:

Blender, bowl of ice, lemonade, vodka and bowl of sour patch kids on a white background.

HOW DO I MAKE SOUR WATERMELON VODKA SLUSH?

STEP 1: PREPARE THE SOUR PATCH WATERMELON CANDIES

Soak the Sour Patch Watermelons in vodka overnight. After the Sour Patch Watermelons have soaked, remove them from the vodka by placing a strainer over bowl and straining the vodka into it. Set the watermelon candies aside to use as a garnish.

STEP 2: BLEND INGREDIENTS

Add to a blender:  Vodka, fresh watermelon, sprite, lemonade, ice, and pink food coloring (if desired for added color). Blend until everything is incorporated.

STEP 3: RIM GLASSES WITH SUGAR, ADD SLUSH AND ENJOY!

Using the lime, rim the glasses. With your glass upside down, dip the rim in pink sprinkles. Pour the slushy drink in your glass, and garnish with limes or spear a couple of the vodka soaked Sour Patch Watermelon candies. Drink up and enjoy!

CAN I SAVE LEFTOVER WATERMELON SLUSH?

If you can't drink it all, you can place leftovers in the freezer. It will not be as good as when you first made it, but it's still a great drink. I recommend pouring it into the blender and re-mixing it before serving. This will allow the ice crystals that formed to break up a little bit. You can also add in any extra vodka or other ingredients if you want.

SHOULD VODKA BE KEPT IN THE FRIDGE AFTER OPENING?

No, it's not necessary to cool the vodka after you open it. You can store opened bottles of alcohol like vodka in your cabinet. While you are at it, consider trying my Strawberry Basil Cocktail too. It's made with gin and is so yummy!

CAN I USE DIFFERENT FRUIT BESIDES WATERMELON?

Yes, you can swap out the watermelon for other fruits if you want. Think of fruits that will go well with watermelon flavored candies. I like honeydew, cantaloupe, and even strawberries on occasion. There are other fruits that would work as well, so don't be afraid to try them out to see what you like the best.

CAN I MAKE THIS SOUR WATERMELON VODKA SLUSH ON THE ROCKS?

Yes, if you prefer a drink that's on the rocks, you can skip blending it. Place all the ingredients in a drink shaker and shake until combined. Then, pour through a strainer (to remove the soaked watermelon patch candies) over ice and enjoy!

  1. Yummm! It reminds me of the vodka slushies I had at Epcot. I'm definitely a vodka girl so I will totally be making these this weekend, thanks for the idea!
  2. This looks and sounds delicious! I would have never thought to use soaked candy like this. And i love sour patch watermelon candy! I really need to try this!
    1. Hi Lisa, Thank you for asking, as it made me realize that I needed to edit the recipe!! So, the vodka should go into the blender with everything else. The watermelon candies should be strained out of the vodka and set aside to use as a garnish. I have adjusted the recipe to make this more clear! I hope you enjoy the drink. :-)
