How to make the Instant Pot Goulash

Step one: Saute your ingredients and mix

Turn the Instant Pot on to the sauté setting. The sauté mode helps to make sure everything is ready before you use the pressure cooker element. Add in the meat, onion, chives, salt, pepper and Italian seasoning. Sauté until the meat has browned. Then, add in the butter and stir until it melts. Next, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Finally, add in remaining ingredients: chicken broth, egg noodles and diced tomatoes. Mix them all together to ensure they are combined.

Step two: Let the Instant pot do its thing

Place the lid on the Instant Pot and close the sealing valve. Set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 8 minutes. When the cook time is up, allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes. Then, do a quick release by opening the sealing valve and releasing the remaining pressure.

Step three: Prepare and Serve

Stir together. Enjoy as is or with a fresh salad and loaf of bread!

Variations of Goulash to try

When it comes to any recipe it is always good to hear of any variations you could make and try. This is by no means an exact recipe, and you can do your own thing regarding what you add or how you make it. Here are a couple of recommended variations that you might want to try.

  • For this recipe I used turkey, but this recipe will lend itself to other meat. You could try chicken, pork, or even beef. If you use beef then you may want to use beef broth with it to really enhance the flavor.
  • You can add lots of different vegetables to this if you wish. Green peppers, red bell pepper, carrots, zucchini, and even mushrooms work well. It really lends itself to so many ingredients, which means you can make it your own.
  • Why not use the slow cooker instead? While this is an instant pot goulash recipe if you want to use the slow cooker then this recipe is easy to convert. Get to the stage where you switch the instant pot on but instead of it being ready in minutes you can cook it on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
  • Add a drizzle of Worcestershire sauce to give it a bit of a kick or soy sauce for a bit more of a salty taste.
  • I used egg noodles in this recipe but you could use pasta shapes or spaghetti if you wish.
