Step Three: Make Your Gummy Bears

Fill the gummy bear molds with the juice mixture. Use the dropper included with your gummy bear mold or pour the mixture into a squeeze bottle to make filling the mold easier. Place the filled molds in the refrigerator and chill for at least 20 minutes. When the gummies have hardened, pop them out of the mold and enjoy.

Homemade Healthy Gummies Recipe Ideas

Once you have these healthy strawberry gummies made, you're going to want to try to change up the recipe to include some of your other favorite flavors! Try these recipe ideas to create a variety of different homemade gummies.

  • Use different fruit for unique flavors. This simple recipe can be made with any diced fruit. Simply chop your favorite fruit and add it to the blender, then follow the recipe as written. There are several different fruits you could try with this homemade gummy recipe, like blueberries, raspberries, cherries, and peaches.
  • Make them with fruit juice. If you don't have fresh fruit on hand, you can also prepare these homemade gummies with fruit juice. Use your favorite flavor of 100% juice to make these gummies. And the best part about adjusting your recipe to include juice is that there's no blending involve. Simply combine the juice, honey, and gelatin in the saucepan and cook according to the recipe.
  • Avoid some fruits. While there are a variety of different fruits you could use to flavor your gummies, there are a few fruit varieties to stay away from because their enzymes will break down the protein in your gelatin. When making your homemade gummies, avoid using these fruits: pineapple, kiwi, papaya, mango, and guava.
  • Try a different sweetener. Honey is a great way to sweeten your gummies because of its neutral flavor. You can also try sweetening your gummies with maple syrup for a vegan alternative to honey.
  • Make gummy cubes. Don't have a silicone mold at home? Don't let that stop you from making your own homemade gummies! After you prepare your gummy liquid, pour the mixture into an 8x8 baking dish. Place the dish in the refrigerator until it hardens. It may take longer than 20 minutes since the gummy will be thicker than the size of gummy bears. After the gelatin has solidified, remove the gummy from the pan and use a sharp knife to cut it into bite-sized cubes.

Gummy bears traditionally aren't the healthiest snack to enjoy. That's because most gummies are made with artificial flavors and loads of sugar. But since this homemade recipe includes healthy ingredients, like fresh fruit and honey, you can enjoy them without the guilt. And while some of the ingredients in this recipe are obviously healthy, other ingredients, like gelatin, offer a variety of surprising health benefits.

Similar to collagen, gelatin is an underrated healthy ingredient that not only helps give your gummies their texture, but makes them much healthier than traditional candy. In fact, gelatin has a variety of great health benefits, including:

  • Improving your gut health
  • Supporting healthy skin and nails
  • Increasing your protein intake

How to Store Homemade Gummies

Unlike traditional gummy bears, these healthy treats do not have any preservatives. That means they need to be refrigerated. Store your homemade gummies in an airtight container in the fridge and they will stay fresh for up to one week.Dish of gummy bears with fresh strawberries and lemon behind it.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Refrigeration Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 350 gummy bears

Ingredients

  • 2 cups strawberries diced
  • 2 .25 oz boxes unflavored gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Gummy bear molds

Instructions

  • Place diced strawberries in blender with lemon juice, and honey. Blend to fully break down the strawberries. If fruit is full of seeds, run juice through a mesh strainer to catch the seeds. It’s much easier to fill the molds with no seeds.
  • Place blended strawberry mixture in a saucepan over medium heat and add the gelatin. Continue to whisk the mixture while bringing it to a slow boil. Once boiling, remove from heat.
  • Fill gummy bear molds with thickened strawberry mixture. The molds come with an eye dropper or I like to use a food squeeze bottle. Slowly fill each mold.
  • Place molds in the fridge for 20 minutes to solidify the gummies. While molds are cooling, keep the gummy mixture warm. If using a squeeze bottle, drop bottle in hot water, if using the dropper, place saucepan on warm.
  • To remove the gummies, pop them right out of the mold and enjoy.

  1. Hi Liz, I have not tried it with the agar agar powder, so I am not sure if it will turn out the proper consistency or not. However, if this is a common replacement that you have used for gelatin in the past, it would be worth a try.
  2. I absolutely love these homemade gummies! The fact that they’re sugar-free makes them a great snack for me and my kids!
