How do I make the Patriotic Fruit and Cheese Platter?
This festive 4th of July appetizer is super easy to make and only takes about 15 minutes! So, it is perfect to throw together when you are in hurry and it is the perfect light and healthy snack to take to a party. Here is what you will need to do to create the platter.
Step 1: Prepare the fruit
Start off by hulling the strawberries with a sharp knife or just carefully pulling the stems out. You can also just slice off the stems if you are short on time. Then rinse them in a colander and pat them dry. Next, rinse the blueberries in a colander and pat them dry with paper towels.

Step 2: Prepare the white cheese
Slice the white cheddar cheese into ¼ inch slices and set aside.
Step 3: Create the flag
Start off by pouring the blueberries into a small bowl and put it int he left upper corner as a placeholder for the square "stars" section of the flag. Then, line the strawberries up in a double line, at the top of the platter. Next, take the cheese slices and line two slices up side by side below the strawberries. Fill in the remainder of the "white stripe" with the cheese slices. Add a second layer of cheese slices to the stripe. Continue to create the stripes by alternating strawberry rows with cheese rows.

American Flag Fruit and Cheese Platter Tips and Tricks
- Strawberries: I bought 4 quarts of strawberries because there are always a few bad ones in the container, so it is good to have extras.
- Cheese: You can also use mozzarella cheese or Swiss cheese in place of the white cheddar. The 8-ounce blocks I used were the perfect, sliceable size to fit the platter, which involved less work. If you are using different cheese, you will want to measure your space and fit your slices accordingly.
- Creating perfect rows: As I was lining up the strawberries and cheese, I had to slightly adjust things as I went along so it all fit well. You will have to play with the various strawberry sizes and you might have to slightly lift the strawberries so the cheese will fit into place.
- Additional items for platter: You can use other items in place of the cheese, if you prefer. White chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, white chocolate covered almonds, etc. would all make great choices.

How do you hull strawberries?
To remove the hull from a strawberry, angle a sharp knife into the top of the strawberry. Cut in a circular motion around the leafy green part and into the white flesh underneath it. They also make special tools to remove the hulls.
Alternatively, you can slice the ends off your strawberries. However, I noticed they stay fresher, longer when you just remove the stem instead of slicing. It also allows for easier grab and go without a mess since sliced strawberries tend to be juicy and stain hands. Leaving the strawberries unsliced will also alleviate the issue of the cheese getting gooey or stained from being beside the strawberries
