How Do I Make Pizza Roses?

Turning premade Pillsbury dough into beautiful roses isn't as difficult as it may seem. To make your own pizza flowers at home using your air fryer, just follow these four simple steps.

Step One: Prepare the Dough

To make these adorable pizza roses, start by opening your crescent roll dough package and unrolling the dough. Lightly flour your work surface to keep the dough from sticking, then place two crescent roll triangles on the floured surface. Pinch the seam together to create one large rectangle and use a pizza cutter to cut the rectangle in half lengthwise. Continue this process until all the dough has been cut.

Step Two: Add the Toppings

Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the top of each dough rectangle, making sure not to add too much sauce. After that, cut each slice of mozzarella cheese into thirds and place two pieces of cheese on top of each rectangle of dough. Finish by placing the pepperoni on top of the cheese slices, making sure half the peperoni slice is overhanging the edge of the dough.

Step Three: Roll the Dough

To turn your crescent roll dough into roses, start by bringing the bottom of the crescent roll up to meet the top half the dough. Then, roll the dough from left to right to form a circle. Place each pizza roll in a cupcake pan or silicone mold, making sure the pan fits inside your air fryer.

Step Four: Air Fry the Pizza Roses

Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees for around three minutes to warm it up, then place the pan in the air fryer basket and cook the pizzas for 8 minutes. When the cook time is up, carefully remove the pizza roses from the basket and sprinkle with parmesan cheese before serving.

Pizza Roses Tips & Tricks

While these pizza roses look fancy, you'll see that they're actually super simple to make. And with the help of these quick tips and tricks, you can whip up beautiful pizza flowers on the first try.

Use a small amount of sauce

While saucy pizza might be delicious, using too much sauce for this recipe could result in messy, greasy pizza roses. Instead, make sure to spread a very thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough before adding your toppings.

Fan the petals out as you roll

To give your pizzas a more realistic look, try fanning out your pepperoni slices while you roll the dough up. And after the roll is finished, lightly press the dough down on the bottom to create a flat surface. Once you have the pizza rolls placed in the muffin pan, arrange the pepperoni slices in the shape you want to ensure all the pizza roses look amazing after they're finished baking.

Try different doughs

I love the flaky texture and buttery flavor of crescent roll dough, but it's not the only option when it comes to making this recipe. You can swap out the crescent roll dough for any of your favorite premade doughs, including pizza dough or puff pastry. No matter what dough you use, follow the same preparation method listed in the recipe above.

Bake them in the oven

Using your air fryer to make these mini pizzas is a quick and easy preparation method. But if you don't have an air fryer, you can also bake your pizza roses in the oven. Place the rolled up pizzas in a muffin pan and bake them at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, until the dough is golden brown.

Try different toppings

Using pepperoni slices is a great way to give your roses a red color. But you can use a variety of different meats to get the same effect, including salami, Canadian bacon, or ham. You could also create a vegetarian rose with the help of tomato slices in place of pepperoni.

Garnish with fresh basil or spinach

Give your pizza rolls a more authentic look by adding leaves to your flower buds after they're finished baking. Place leaves of fresh basil or spinach around the pizza flowers when you're ready to serve your dinner.
