4 Simple Ways to Stick to a Healthy Diet

*This post is sponsored by FAGE, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.

March definitely came in like a lion here in Maine with a big snow storm at the start of the month. However, Spring is just around the corner, despite what the snow bank looks like in my driveway. I am looking forward to warmer temps for so many reasons! Winter can be a tough time of year to stick to a healthy diet with the desire to have comfort foods on cold, snowy days. I definitely fell off track, but I am ready to get right back into better healthy living habits as warm days begin to arrive. I came up with these 4 Simple Ways to Stick to a Healthy Diet as a starting point to get back on track. Check them out!

4 Simple Ways to Stick to a Healthy Diet

  1. Start the Day with a High Protein Breakfast: High protein diets are associated with reduced caloric intake as protein dense meals help individuals feel full longer. This prevents snacking in between meals leading to a reduction in daily calories consumed. Mornings always seem to be the craziest time of the day at my house, as everyone is rushing to get to school and work. I try to prepare ahead by making things like these Triple Berry Overnight Oats for breakfast. They are super easy to make and filling too! All you need to do is combine 1 cup of rolled oats, 1 cup of vanilla almond milk, 1 cup of protein rich FAGE Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurt,1 tablespoon of chia seeds, ¼ cup shredded coconut, and 1 cup of mixed frozen or fresh berries in a bowl. Then, refrigerate and let sit for at least 4 hours or overnight. They can be enjoyed warm or cold and are the perfect way to start the day!

  1. Keep Healthy Snacks Ready to Go!: One thing I have found very helpful in my quest to stick to a healthy diet is to have nutritious snacks ready to go! Often times when we are busy, we reach for whatever is convenient to eat in the pantry or refrigerator. I have found that keeping fresh veggies cut up and ready to eat prevents me from grabbing chips or unhealthy prepackaged items. A quick and easy dip can be made with FAGE Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurtby combining it with some dried herbs. I love using FAGE Greek yogurt to make dips because it has a distinctive rich, creamy, and delicious taste! Pictured below is my favorite healthy ranch dip. To make: Combine ⅔ cup Greek yogurt, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 teaspoon dried dill, and ½ teaspoon garlic powder.

  1. Eat Mindfully: There are many steps to eating mindfully, but simply put it is really paying attention to what you eat. By eating mindfully, it helps to make better choices and avoid overeating. One of my favorite ways to practice mindful eating is to prepare bright and beautiful smoothie bowls. They are delicious and fun to eat too! I use FAGE Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurtbecause it is an all-natural Greek yogurt that is made with only milk and live active yogurt cultures. It also has no added sugar and is Non-GMO Project Verified, which fits in with my practice of eating mindfully. Pictured below is a simple to make tropical smoothie bowl. To make: Add 1 banana, 1 cup of frozen mango chunks, 1 cup of frozen pineapple chunks, and 1 cup of coconut milk to a blender and pulse until smooth. Top with fresh slices of kiwi, diced mango, blueberries, and shredded coconut.

  1. Plan Your Meals: Meal planning has a number of benefits from helping with time management to saving money at the grocery store. It is also a significant factor in dieting success as people are less likely to reach for unhealthy options. Creating a weekly plan for meals also helps with meal prep! One thing I like to do is to cook large batches of family favorite recipes. I make enough for two meals and I freeze one for later. For example, I made a double batch of this delicious Instant Pot Mexican Chili. We had some for dinner last night and there was enough left over to freeze for another complete family meal. All I will have to do next time everyone wants their favorite chili is thaw it out and add the toppings! I just love adding FAGE Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurton top of this spicy dish. It tames down the heat and gives the chili a yummy, creamy taste.
