2020 is in full swing, It is hard to believe we are already heading into February. I have set several goals centered around health and wellness for the year. Some of these goals have required making minor lifestyle changes. Although, they are small changes, I have had to work hard to stay on track this past month. However, each day has gotten a little easier and they are now becoming part of my daily routine. I even came up with 3 Lifestyle Hacks for a Healthy New Year.

I hear the word "hack" used a lot, but what exactly does it mean? Basically, a hack is a shortcut, trick or easy skill to help increase productivity or efficiency. Lifestyle hacks are great to use and can help people reach their long-term goals! I have been using these 3 hacks to help me achieve my overall goals related to health and wellness.

Hack #1: Go to Bed Early

Going to bed early has been a tough one for me as I have been a "night owl" for most of my life. However, it is essential to get a good, solid night of sleep. In fact, it is important for one's mental and physical health. While we are asleep, our body is hard at work healing and repairing our vital organs. So, I have been making it a priority to get to bed early and get 8 hours of sleep each night. I have already noticed a big difference in how I feel each day! When, I am well rested it sets the tone for the day as far as productivity, eating healthy, and exercising.

Hack #2: Drink Plenty of Water

This may seem like an easy one, but it can be hard on some days to get in my daily H2O! So, I have a few things that I have been doing over the past month that has really helped me. Keep a glass or bottle of water beside your bed. When you wake up in the morning, aim to drink it before having your morning coffee or tea. Use a wide mouth water bottle, instead of a sports bottle as the water flows easier and quicker from it. This enables me to get more water in one gulp! I also like to infuse my water with fresh herbs and berries to add a little flavor. Proper hydration each day aids in digestion and will help your body function optimally.

Hack #3: Count Daily Macros

I am not a huge fan of diets, but I needed to find something to help me get back on track with eating healthy. I had read about the importance of counting daily macronutrients and the 40/30/30 lifestyle. I really liked the idea, so I decided to learn more about it and give it a try! I have found it to be helpful for me to maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet each day.

It is a balanced approach to healthy eating that does not restrict certain foods. Following a 40/30/30 lifestyle involves keeping track of the quantity of food consumed and the ratio of macronutrients. A macronutrient is a nutritional compound that your body requires in large quantities to function properly each day. Carbohydrates, protein and fats are the 3 macronutrients.   1. Yes I am all about drinking lots of water and I have been prioritizing sleep more. I do not really count my macros but I know lots of people find it helpful

  3. Drinking plenty of water is definitely one for me. I have to consciously think about drinking water, or I never come close to enough.
  4. I have an alarm set on my watch to help keep the time in check in the evening and remind myself it's time to start getting ready for bed. I am a night owl, too, so it's been hard for me, too.

  10. What a great bar for one the go! I love how easy they are to get. I need to keep working on water too. Since I Had the twins it's been a lot harder to get it in.
  11. I've been doing much better lately about going to bed earlier, but I still need to work on drinking more water! I think dehydration might be contributing to the headaches I've been getting recently, but for some reason its so hard for me to get in the habit of drinking between meals. Silly, right?

  14. I really need to work on getting more sleep! I’ve tried Zone Perfect bars before (the chocolate chip cookie dough is yummy) but haven’t tried these macro bars yet. I’ll have to check them out!
