I know my beloved dog Walter can be a bright spot on a stressful day. He is also a great running partner! Not to mention, a fun playmate for my children. If you're a dog lover like me, you want to see your faithful companion as happy and go-lucky as possible! Check out these Five Great Ways to Keep Your Dog Happy.

Five Great Ways to Keep Your Dog Happy

  1. Stop and Smell the Roses: Sometimes taking our furry friends for walks can seem like a chore when we are rushed. Make sure to take at least a few minutes on each walk where your dog can "stop and smell the roses". Let them sniff everything, as this is their way of checking out their surroundings.

  1. Game Time: Most dogs love playing games with their owners. Whether it is fetching a tennis ball or tug-of war with a rope toy, this is sure to keep your canine happy.

  1. Put them to Work: Many types of dogs were bred for working with or beside humans. So it is in their nature to want to fetch the newspaper or chase after a tennis ball. One of my dogs was so conditioned to get the newspaper that when we stopped our delivery service, she headed to the neighbor's house to get their paper for them!

  1. Go for a Run: There is nothing that some dogs love more than running freely. Seek out a dog friendly and safe place that you can take your dog to so they can enjoy the freedom of running off leash! If you enjoy running, take them with you on your shorter runs. Check out my post on running with your dog <Here>.

  1. Nourish them Well: I saved the most important tip for last! Feeding your dog well and helping them maintain a healthy weight is essential for the overall happiness. We humans are very conscious of what we put into our bodies, but often do not think about our pet's diet. Recently, I discovered Supreme Source Pet Food® at our local Hannaford Grocery Store and decided to have Walter give it a try! In fact, he recently participated in their 10-Day Detox Program and the results were great!

Supreme Source 10 Day Detox

Walter participated in the Super Foods Switch 10 Day Detox to improve his mind, body, and soul.  Supreme Source Pet Food is grain free and contains no artificial flavors or colors. It is formulated of a healthy blend of fruits and veggies that are a natural source of potassium, fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is the perfect food for my athletic dog! Walter tried the Turkey Meal and Sweet Potato Recipe for the detox. The good news is your dog can try it too! Check out the Super Foods Switch site <HERE> to save on a bag of Supreme Source® Pet Food this Spring. You can also sign up for daily emails with tips and instructions on having a better relationship with your pet.

The Results!

I slowly switched Walter's food over to the Supreme Source Pet Food over the 10-day period and this is how I did it:

  1. My dog passed away a few years ago but we always tried to provide him with the most nutritious food as possible, especially as he got older. We always wanted to give him food and treats that would help keep his joints healthy as well.
  2. My pupper loves going for a run. I can't wait to get out with her more now that I'm functioning again!
  3. Our dog is a retired sled dog so any day we can go for a run is a VERY happy day in his eyes! He even know's what my running clothing looks like and gets super excited when I put it on. Also, lots of love and treats can't hurt ;)
  4. Aw, your dog is so stinkin' cute! We don't have any pets right now - the toddler is enough of a handful at this point, haha - but I think we'll probably end up with a dog at some point :)
  5. Our dog, Max, is our first experience with a family dog. I never had a dog growing up, so it's certainly a new arena. We rescued Max three years ago (he is now 8-yrs. old), but he has the energy of a 6-month old puppy, I swear. I agree with the "smell the roses" thing LOL Taking him for a walk around the block can take a lot longer than I'd like some times because he loves to stop and sniff every 10 feet.
  6. Oh, your dog is so cute! We're just about ready to get a dog again, but it will take time to find the right one.
  7. I've never had a dog, but I know a bunch of people who do and follow a lot of these. We've had to switch our cat's food before and followed a similar process.

  10. I don't have a dog but if I did I know that I would treat him much nicer than I see people treating their dogs around here! I would definitely give him or her the time and attention needed when going out. I live in a small apartment so I have cats. One day though, when we have a bigger house, I would definitely like to get a dog :)
  11. Awww! Walter is precious! So, I have pugs. Pugs are generally not interested in running or walking, and are happiest if they can snuggle up with their humans. Or eat. That's just how they roll, especially as they are getting older. They do all have a variety of allergies and dietary needs, so they are all on grain-free kibble, which the don't hate. It's not bacon, but they are able to manage their disappointment :)
  12. Our dog is definitely happiest when he can spend as much time outdoors with us as possible! He loves to go for a run or hike!
  13. We don't have a dog anymore (our rescue pup ran away and we have yet to get another), but we pet sit a lot so we have lots of dogs around to play with. Each dog we care for has different food! I will have to share this with the owners. Love all the pics! Walter def seems like a happy part of your family!

  27. Hi Angela, It is so essential to keep your canine sound and upbeat! I don't have a canine yet on the off chance that I did I realize that I would treat him a lot more pleasant than I see individuals rewarding their mutts around here! I would give the person in question the time and consideration required when going out. I live in a little loft so I have felines.
