Ingredients

Instructions

  • Spray a 9x13 cake pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter and marshmallows. Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until when stirred, the marshmallows are nice and creamy.
  • Stir thoroughly until the butter and marshmallows combine and add the cake mix.
  • Stir well before placing back in the microwave for 30 seconds, to remelt the marshmallows a bit.
  • Add the rice cereal and fold it into the marshmallow mixture until the cereal is all coated.
  • Pour into the prepared pan and press flat and even.
  • Place the white chocolate chips into a small mixing bowl and microwave for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until the chips are smooth when stirred.
  • Using a spoon, drizzle the chocolate over the top of the treats in the pan in a diagonal pattern.
  • If the chocolate is too thick and won’t drizzle, add the coconut and mix well, then try drizzling.
  • Let rest for 2 hours or until set. Cut and enjoy!

Notes

Tips:
The treats will get like a dark red with a tint of maroon before they’re set. No worries, they turn a normal bright red once dry!
You can technically cut the treats a few minutes after pressing them into the pan, but you’ll want to give the chocolate time to set and giving the treats longer to sit will allow them to cut better.
It will take a strong arm to mix the rice cereal into the marshmallow. So, this step wouldn’t be great for the kiddos. You’ll want to use a strong spoon to stir at this step and not a rubber spatula.
It’s important you reheat the marshmallow before adding the cereal or it will be about impossible to mix them together.
Don’t press the treats down too hard. They will pack in too well and make the treats hard to bite.
Using the name brand rice cereal DOES make a difference in the final outcome
Double the recipe for extra thick treats!
