Tips for Eating Clean While Saving Money

It's been a long winter here in Maine, but the snow is finally melting and Spring is just around the corner. I have even started doing a little Spring cleaning at my house! As I was organizing my desk, I came across my list of New Year's Resolutions and decided to see how well I am doing with them. Two of my goals were to be more budget minded when shopping and maintain a clean and healthy diet for myself and my family.  I am happy to say that I have been sticking to both of these resolutions. So how am I doing this? Check out my Tips for Eating Clean While Saving Money.

Tips for Eating Clean While Saving Money

  1. Avoid Prepackaged Salads-I do love a good salad! However, I had fallen into the habit of buying the prepackaged salads at the store, which are expensive and tend to go bad quickly. Now, I buy all the ingredients for my salad separately and prepare a big bowl of it to keep in the refrigerator. Not only am I saving money, but my beloved greens stay fresh longer!

  1. Stock Up During Sales- Healthy foods such as whole grain pasta, beans, and olive oil can be bought and stored for a long period of time. I check to see when these items are on sale and stock up on them!

  1. Say No to Processed Foods- Sure those heavily processed prepared meals can be great when you're in a pinch for a quick dinner, but they come at a hefty price and they are unhealthy! One thing that I like to do is make double batches of food (like this Chicken Noodle and Spinach Soup)and have half for dinner and freeze the other half for another meal.

My Hannaford Rewards

Back in January, I signed up for My Hannaford Rewards and it has been a huge help in my efforts to eat clean while saving money.  In case you missed my post on Tips for Eating Healthy on a Budget you can check it out <HERE>. It describes all of the wonderful benefits. Shoppers earn a 2% reward on the foods they purchase most often-and those rewards can be redeemed each quarter! In a little over 2 months I have saved over twenty dollars by using coupons and I earned ten dollars in rewards!

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

I have the Hannaford app on my phone and it makes using coupons so quick and easy! The Hannaford app also has a ton of great coupon deals. I love browsing through the coupons on this convenient app and virtually clipping the coupons that I plan to use at the store. The clipped coupons are applied when you scan your rewards barcode or enter the phone number you used to sign up when you check out at the store.

So Tell Me...

I prep and keep my food stored in clear glass containers so I can see what I have on hand at a glance and use it before it goes bad! My champ of a husband found this awesome container that has helped to keep our greens longer! I also freeze fresh fruits and veggies that seem like they are about to go bad, or many a big batch of soup and freeze some of that also :)
