Happy New Year, I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. I did, but it was busy! I struggled to get in my typical workouts, but it is all about the balance...right? So now, after a month of Christmas celebrations and holiday parties (where I may have overindulged), it is time to get back on track with my normal wellness routine. I know many people set resolutions centering around eating healthy and exercising regularly. So, today I am sharing a few of my favorite Tips for a Fit and Healthy New Year.

Set small goals
If your goal is to be able to run a 10 kilometer race, work your way up to it. Most people do not go out and run 6.2 miles when the furthest they have ever run is 2 miles. They work their way up from 2 miles, then 3, etc. until they are able to hit that 6.2 mile goal. A good halfway benchmark would be to sign up for a 5 kilometer race several weeks before tackling the 10 kilometer event.
Write it down
Of course it is easy for us to say we want to exercise 4 times a week. However, it is so much more powerful if we write down the goal and plan out how we are going to achieve it. At the beginning of the week, take a look at your schedule and figure out what 4 days will work best for fitness! Then, put it right in your planner like an appointment with yourself that can not be missed!
Track your progress
There are a number of great ways to track your progress related to fitness. I prefer the old fashioned method of keeping a hand written journal. However, there are a number of great phone apps that work very well! Some of them even have graphs where your can see progress over a period of time. Other apps will allow you to keep track of exercise along with food intake and weight. It is great to be able to see how far we have come along with our goals, especially at times when we are feeling discouraged.
Let everyone know about your goals
This can be a tough one as it means "putting yourself out there". However, it is huge for accountability and support. So make sure to tell the people in your life that are your "cheerleaders", the one's that will help you achieve your goals and encourage you to continue if you fall off track!
Make small changes
Small changes can be made in several areas of your daily life. However, it may be best to focus on one thing at first. For example, I am trying to incorporate more plant-based foods into my diet. So, I have replaced my typical post-workout snack with Silk® Almond Yogurt Alternative. This was such a simple swap! I love this delicious dairy-free yogurt alternative that I discovered at Walmart. It has 5 grams of plant protein, live and active cultures and tastes delicious too!

Progress is Perfection®
When it comes to health and fitness goals, sometimes people dive in head first making drastic changes to their routine..."It's all or nothing!" The intentions are admirable, however making small, gradual changes over time tend to have the best impact. This is why I like the Silk® motto "Progress is Perfection" because small changes in our lifestyle can lead to big change over time.
The Silk® 30 Day Challenge
As I mentioned above, one small change I made was to enjoy Silk® Almond Yogurt Alternative after my workouts. It is so convenient to pick it up at Walmart while I am shopping. This certainly makes it easier to accomplish my health and wellness resolutions! I have committed to the Silk® 30 Day Challenge to keep me on track. I am including more plant-based foods in my diet and you can too. You can find out more about the 30 Day Challenge and sign up <HERE>.
