How Do I Make This Twinkie Cake Recipe?

You won’t believe how simple this no-bake dessert is to prepare! That makes it perfect for a last-minute party on a hot summer day. This recipe is so easy to make; it’s ready with just a few minutes of prep work. All you have to do is follow these four simple steps.

Step One: Prepare the Twinkies

Since the base of this no-bake cake is made with Twinkies, you’ll need to start by getting your snack cakes ready for layering. First, slice nine Twinkies in half lengthwise. Then, arrange them with the cream side up in a 9×13 baking dish. After that, cut the final Twinkie into bite-sized pieces for decorating the top of the cake, then set it aside while you layer the rest of the ingredients.

Step Two: Add the Strawberries

Make sure to give your frozen strawberries plenty of time to thaw, then spread the fruit over the top of the Twinkies. Smooth the mixture over the snack cakes until evenly distributed across the pan.

Step Three: Prepare the Pudding

Whisk together the cheesecake pudding and the milk until well combined. Rest until the pudding thickens, then fold in the whipped topping. Spread the mixture evenly over the strawberries in the pan and sprinkle the remaining Twinkie over the top of the cake.

Step Four: Chill the Twinkie Cake

Cover the pan with foil or plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator. The cake should chill for at least six hours but can be kept in the fridge overnight for the best flavor.

Twinkie Cake Recipe Substitutions

Since this no-bake cake recipe is so easy to prepare, it’s also easy to customize. If you’re looking for simple substitution ideas to create a unique dessert, try these recipe adjustments while designing your own cake at home.

  • Try fresh strawberries. Frozen strawberries make a quick and easy addition to this simple recipe because there’s no prep work involved. But you can use fresh strawberries instead if you have fresh strawberries. After slicing the strawberries into bite-sized pieces, toss them with around ¼ cup of sugar. Then, spread the fresh berries across the top of the Twinkies.
  • Experiment with different fruit. Strawberries are a classic addition to this dessert – especially if you like strawberry shortcakes. But there are so many other fruits you could use instead of berries. Add sliced bananas, blueberries, raspberries, pineapple tidbits, peaches, or mandarin oranges.
  • Use different filling. You’ll love this dessert recipe’s delicious combination of cheesecake pudding and strawberries. But you could also use vanilla pudding or additional whipped topping if you don’t have any cheesecake pudding on hand.
  • Try it with pie filling. Another simple substitution you can make to your Twinkie cake recipe is to use pie filling in place of frozen fruit. Strawberry pie filling makes a great addition, but you could also try it with cherry, blueberry, or apple filling.
  • Make it with different cakes. Twinkies are a delicious addition to this no-bake recipe, but they’re not the only base you can use for your cake. Try baking your own yellow or vanilla cake or substituting sliced pound cake or shortcake in place of the Twinkies.

How Do You Store Twinkie Cake?

Since this cake is prepared with fruit and pudding, it needs to be refrigerated for best results. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or transfer leftover cake to an airtight container. When refrigerated, the cake will stay good for up to three days before the Twinkies start to get soggy.
