How Do I Make This Fireball Dessert?

This adults-only dessert is a fun take on a classic party treat. And since it's packed with spicy cinnamon flavor and simple to make, this alcohol-infused fluff is going to be your go-to summer dessert. To make your own Fireball fluff salad, just follow these quick and easy instructions.

Step One: Prepare the Fluff

Start by combining the packet of cherry Jell-O with the whipped topping and mix to combine. You should disregard the instructions on the back of the box and simply stir the powder into the Cool Whip. Continue stirring until all the gelatin powder is dissolved and there are no white streaks.

Step Two: Flavor the Fluff

Next, add the cherries, mini marshmallows, sour cream, chopped pecans, Fireball whiskey and ground cinnamon to the bowl. Stir to mix until all the ingredients are well combined.

How Do You Store This Fireball Dessert?

Prepared with Jello and Cool Whip, this no-bake dessert needs to be chilled until you're ready to eat it. Make sure the bowl is covered or transfer your leftovers to an airtight container. When stored properly, the fluff will stay good for up to five days.

While you can keep the extra fluff in the fridge, freezing this dessert isn't recommended. That's because the ingredients will begin to separate as the frozen fluff thaws. Luckily, your fluff can be made up to one day in advance and stored in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve it.

Can I Add More Fireball to the Fluff?

This simple dessert is packed with cinnamon flavor thanks to the addition of ground cinnamon and Red Hots on top. And if you want to take the Fireball flavor to another level, you may be tempted to add a little more whiskey to the bowl. But it's not a good idea to increase the amount of Fireball in your dessert because it could cause the fluff to become thin and runny.

Instead of adding more Fireball to the bowl, try mixing in a pinch of cinnamon or stir Red Hot candies directly into the salad in addition to using them to garnish the top of the dessert.

Fireball Fluff Recipe Ideas

The mix of sweet and spicy ingredients in this flavorful dessert is sure to be a hit at your next party. But just because this dessert recipe tastes great as written doesn't mean you can't change things up if you want! Try these swaps and substitutions to create a delicious fluff that's the perfect combination of ingredients for your friends.

  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon. Adding more or less ground cinnamon is a great way to reduce or increase the spice level of your dessert. If you're worried that the fluff will have too much cinnamon flavor, start with half the amount listed in the recipe. Then, taste test the mixture until you reach your desired flavor level.
  • Swap out the sour cream. If you're not a fan of sour cream, you have a few other options when it comes to ingredient swaps. Try using cottage cheese or Greek yogurt in place of sour cream to add creaminess to the dessert without the added tang.
  • Use different types of nuts. Pecans are a classic addition to fluff salad, but that doesn't mean you have to use them in your dessert. You can leave the nuts out altogether. Or try mixing in some chopped walnuts or almond slivers instead.
  • Try different Jello flavors. You'll love the combination of cherry and cinnamon in this Fireball treat. But cherry gelatin isn't the only flavor you can use when making your dessert at home. Try swapping out the cherry Jello for strawberry or raspberry for more delicious flavor combos.

Notes

Store in the fridge, covered, in an airtight container, for up to 5 days. Do not freeze.
Do not add more Fireball or it will make the fluff salad too thin.
If you want to tame down the cinnamon flavor a bit, reduce the ground cinnamon by half.
You can swap out a cup of cottage cheese for the sour cream, if desired.
You can technically eat this fluff salad right away. However, if you leave it overnight, the mixture has more time to let the flavors sink in. The marshmallows also get softer, so their texture is more streamlined into the salad. This is totally up to you!
To garnish, I simply used an Ateco #824 frosting tip to pipe a large dollop of whipped cream on top of the bowl of fluff salad. I then randomly placed fresh mini marshmallows, chopped maraschino cherry pieces, and red hots around the outside of the bowl of fluff so it had a pretty presentation. If finished by placing a maraschino cherry with stem on the very top, center of the cool whip dollop.
You do not need to prepare the jello before using it. You’re simply using the jello powder.
If you don’t like pecans, you can omit them. It will not harm the recipe in any way.
