Step Two: Brown the Beef

Set the instant pot to saute mode and add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the ground beef and cook until browned, stirring constantly. When the meat is cooked through, add the onion and stir to combine. Next, add in ¾ cup beef broth and scrape up any browned bits on bottom of pot so they do not burn.

How Do You Saute Ground Beef in the Instant Pot?

Cooking ground beef in your Instant Pot is a little more work than cooking other meats in the pressure cooker. While you can usually place your chicken or pork in the pot and seal the lid to cook, ground beef needs to be sauted in the Instant Pot.

To brown your ground beef in the pressure cooker, set the pot to saute mode. When the pot beeps to tell you it's hot, add oil and allow it to heat for around one minute. After that, place the ground beef in the pot. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to break up the meat into small pieces. Continue stirring and breaking up the meat until it's cooked through.

Browning your ground beef in the Instant Pot typically takes six to eight minutes. When the meat is cooked through, you can turn off the Instant Pot and carefully drain off the excess grease in the pan, if needed. After that, follow the instructions in your recipe.

Can You Cook Rice and Meat at the Same Time in the Instant Pot?

If you're hoping to cook your rice separately from your meat, you might think that you'll need to use two appliances to cook your meal. But with the help of your Instant Pot's trivet, you can cook your rice without mixing it with your ground beef. To do this, just place the trivet on top of the meat in your Instant Pot. Then, combine the rice and water in a pot and place it on top of your trivet.

Set your pot to cook on high pressure according to the recipe instructions. When the cook time is up, use the handles on your trivet to carefully remove the rice from the Instant Pot and stir to fluff the rice. Continue cooking the meat as instructed, then serve the Korean beef on top of the cooked white rice.
