How to Get Your Health Back On Track

The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound effect on the lives of most people, even if they weren’t directly affected by the condition. Many people have had disruption to their everyday lives and activities due to remote working, homeschooling kids, and gyms being closed.

While many people went into these lockdowns vowing to get (or stay fit), buying home fitness equipment like it was going out of fashion, many people fell off the health and fitness wagon in a major way as the pandemic went on.

If you are one of those people who’ve emerged from the other side of the pandemic far unhealthier than when you went in, then it’s time to start reversing these changes now.

Get your diet back on track

If you’ve been living on junk food and takeout, then you’re going to want to start bringing fresh, unprocessed foods back into your diet. If you struggle to know what to eat or need some inspiration check out sites like SKINNY Performance Weight Loss to get a customized plan for you.

Getting enough fruit and vegetables and lean proteins is the best way to get back on track. You can still have treats, just remember that everything in moderation is the best way to go.

Ease yourself back into fitness

If you were super fit before last year, then you probably want to get back to that level. Now that gyms and health clubs have been allowed to reopen you can get back into your previous routine with relatively little fuss. If however, you’ve never exercised, but the pandemic has made you vow to get fitter, then resist the urge to dive into heavy exercise. Chances are you’ll either hurt yourself, wear yourself out, or give up completely.

Assess Your Alcohol Consumption

During the past couple of years it’s likely that your usual drinking habits may have strayed ever so slightly. If you were once a social drinker at the weekends, it may have turned into something a little more frequent. Without realizing you may be leaning on alcohol to get you through the day; becoming addicted to alcohol during stressful periods of your life is completely normal and nothing to be ashamed of. If you are looking for a way out of your current addiction, you may want to invest in a sober coach. With the right support you can get back on track with your health goals without looking back. Although it may take some time to acknowledge that you need help, consider this as one of your steps to recovering.

Correct any posture issues

Remote working and moving less overall can wreak havoc on your posture and muscles. A regular stretching routine, yoga, and pilates should deal with a lot of issues caused by this. But if you find that there are niggling aches and pains you can’t get rid of, then a trip to the chiropractor or physio might be required. They can assess you thoroughly and do corrective work to strengthen and realign your joints and muscles.

Don’t forget your mind

Chances are you know someone who has died or been seriously ill during the pandemic, and this can be tough to deal with. Even if you have been relatively unaffected in terms of the health of your family and friends, you can still be hugely affected in terms of your mental health. After all, we’ve all just lived through a global pandemic. We’ve feared for ourselves, our loved ones, our jobs, and been cut off from seeing those we love. It’s enough to affect anyone’s mental health. Talking to someone about your feelings can help, this can be a friend or a professional.

Final thoughts

Now that we are nearing the end of the pandemic in many parts of the world, it’s natural to want to focus attention on trying to get your life back on track. Learn how to take care of your body and mind and before you know it you’ll be reaching those goals.

Hopefully all of us can use this re-set to come back to a better "new normal" with some better habits. I'm guilty of jumping back into the old normal, but I am working to reduce stress in my life. Good advice!

I gained over 20 pounds in the first 6 months after the outbreak. Then I decided to change things and nowadays I'm in the best shape of my life. It's a matter of choice in the end. Let's not let excuses stand in the way of our success. Thank you so much for your tips. Keep it up!
