I just love the holiday season for so many reasons! Baking, cooking, and eating holiday food, are definitely some of my favorite things to do this time of year. However, I do have a sensitive stomach, so I need to watch what I eat to avoid having any gastrointestinal (GI) distress. 

I am still able to indulge in holiday goodies though. Moderation is key for me to avoid having any GI issues. I have come up with these Holiday Survival Tips for People with Sensitive Stomachs. Check them out below.

KNOW YOUR TRIGGERS

Figuring out what foods trigger GI distress for you is the first place to start because it is not the same for everyone. A good way to determine what causes stomach issues like bloating, gas and occasional diarrhea is to keep a food journal. Take note of what was eaten before you developed an upset stomach. For me, high fat items and fried foods are triggers. So I make sure I am prepared by taking IMODIUM® Multi-Symptom Relief Anti-Diarrheal Medicine Caplets on an empty stomach 1 hour before I have a meal that might aggravate my stomach.

MAKE SURE TO HYDRATE

Proper hydration is important for a number of reasons and aiding in digestion is at the top of the list! So, if you suffer from stomach sensitivity, make sure to drink plenty of water each day. It is also important to limit caffeine or alcohol intake as these fluids can cause stomach irritation. 

MODERATION IS KEY

As I mentioned above, eating in moderation is key for me. So, in order to enjoy all of the goodies, I take small portions of each one and take my time eating them. 

BE PROACTIVE

Being proactive has been a game changer for me when it comes to managing my GI issues. As I mentioned above, if I know I am going to eat fried and/or high fat foods, I take IMODIUM® an hour before my meal with a full glass of water. Of course, during the busy holiday season, my meals are not always planned. I know I am not the only one in my family that struggles with GI issues. But I do know that the foods that trigger these problems can be unique to each individual.  Sometimes these issues are related to dairy products. You wrote this post at the PERFECT time! My husband has been eliminating foods because of his stomach issues. He's currently taking Pepcid AND lactose pills. I need to tell him about these tips. Especially the hydration tip. These are excellent! Thank you!
