Hatfield Ham and Veggie Strata

What is a Strata?

When I told my son I was making a Hatfield Ham and Veggie Strata for dinner, he asked what is a strata? Good question. A strata is a layered, baked dish of eggs, bread and cheese with the addition of vegetables, herbs and/or meat. This is a great dish to make with leftovers because just about anything can be tossed into the dish!

How do I make the Hatfield Ham and Veggie Strata?

The strata is super easy to make! Start by preparing an 11 x 7 baking dish with cooking spray or butter. Toast the English muffins and break them into chunks. Then combine the English muffins, red and green bell pepper, onion and shiitake mushrooms in a baking dish.

Pour egg mixture over the muffin mixture. Cover and place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. The longer the dish sits, the more the consistency of the strata will be like a custard.

When ready to bake, remove dish from refrigerator and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Then, bake for approximately 35 to 40 minutes, or until eggs set and the top lightly browns. If desired, take out of oven after 30 minutes and sprinkle with cheese, then finish off in the oven.

What else can I add to the Hatfield Ham and Veggie Strata?

This dish is so versatile! Some other ingredients I have used are: broccoli, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, and diced jalapeño. It can also be topped with chopped green onions and/or salsa. The type of cheese used could easily be changed up as well!

Is the strata gluten-free?

I used regular English muffins in this dish. However, it can easily be prepared as a gluten-free dish by using gluten-free English muffins or bread.

How do I store the strata?

The Hatfield Ham and Veggie Strata is best eaten warm out of the oven. However, it can be stored in the refrigerator covered for 2 to 3 days. Then, rewarm it in the oven covered with tin foil.

Where can I find Hatfield Ham?

Hatfield Ham is ethically raised, gluten-free and made in America by a family owned company. It is available at many locations: ShopRite, ACME, Giant Carlisle, Stop n Shop, Price Chopper, and Hannaford. I found mine at Hannaford here in Maine. I love that it is so tasty and always fully-cooked. It is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  As I mentioned above, it is so versatile and it makes mealtime preparation easy.

  1. Well, I didn't know it was called a strata, but I have made something similar before! I love using leftovers in new ways like this rather than letting them go to waste. This looks like something my family would devour, minus the mushrooms since my husband is the only one who eats those.
