Winter weather has arrived here in Maine, which also means cold and flu season is under way. I was taken down last week with a miserable cold. It is hard to be sick when you are a busy parent trying to work and also keep up with an exercise training plan. However, I have learned to listen to my body and take a break when needed, especially when I am sick. Check out these Five Tips for Recovering from a cold.

Five Tips for Recovering from a Cold

Hydrate

It's important to stay hydrated all the time. However, it is particularly important when recovering from a cold. Drinking warm or cold liquids helps loosen up stuffiness and congestion. I like drinking fruit infused waters as it gives it a little flavor and adds some vitamins too.

Rest

Proper sleep is essential to staying healthy both physically and mentally. While we are catching z's, our body is busy at work healing and repairing our blood vessels and heart. A good night's sleep is necessary for our immune system to function optimally to help recover and prevent illness.

Nourish Your Body

Sometimes we lose our appetite when we are not feeling well. However, our body still requires proper nourishment in order to get better. Make sure to get in plenty of vitamin C by drinking orange juice or eating immune boosting fruits and veggies. A good old fashioned bowl of chicken noodle soup with vegetables is one of my favorite ways to nourish my body when I am sick.

Ease Back into Things

This is tough one, but very important! Do not go all out as soon as you start to feel better. It may be tempting to get right back on track with an exercise program. However, doing too much too soon after recovering from an illness can just lead to becoming sick again.

Take Align® Resistance Formula Probiotic Supplements

Probiotics are important for overall health and well being all the time. When recovering from an illness, they play a critical role for gut health, especially when taking antibiotics. Antibiotics are great at killing the bad bacteria that make us sick. Unfortunately, they also kill good bacteria in your digestive system, like the ones found in most probiotic supplements. I was thrilled to find the #1 Doctor Recommended   Align® Resistance Formula Probiotics at Walmart.

It is clinically proven to help maintain digestive balance* with large, strong probiotic cells that survive antibiotic use.** It is easy to use as it can be taken along with your antibiotic for 14 days. Adults take 1-2 capsules daily, while kids from 6 months of age to 12 years can take take one capsule that is twisted open and mixed into food or a drink. Align® Resistance Formula Probiotics are formulated with science and backed by nature. I also love that they are gluten-free, soy free, dairy free and vegetarian too!
