How Do I Make This Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe?

Even though this easy recipe is prepared with a mix, these cookies taste like they come straight from a bakery! That’s because this recipe uses a simple trick to take the flavor and texture of the store-bought mix to the next level. To prepare this simple cookie mix hack, all you have to do is follow these easy instructions:

Step One: Brown the Butter

Warm a small saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat. Add the butter to the pan and allow it to melt and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until it turns golden brown. Transfer the browned butter to a bowl and allow it to cool for around 10 minutes until it’s warm to the touch.

Step Two: Make the Cookie Dough

Pour the cookie mix into a medium bowl and add the brown butter and eggs. Stir the ingredients with a spoon until well mixed, scraping the sides of the bowl halfway through mixing to incorporate all the ingredients thoroughly. When the dough is well mixed, allow it to rest on the counter at room temperature for 30 minutes to help the elements fully incorporate the flavors of the brown butter.

Step Three: Bake the Chocolate Chip Cookies

Use a medium-sized cookie scoop to create dough balls around 2 inches in diameter. Place each dough ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the cookies for 12 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.

Step Four: Allow the Cookies to Cool

When the cookies are finished baking, remove the pan from the oven and allow them to rest on the baking sheet for 10 minutes. After that, transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Mix in some toffee. Buttery toffee pieces make a great addition to brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Mix in some chopped toffee pieces as you prepare your cookie dough for added sweetness and chewy texture.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350° F. Prepare a 9” x 13” baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Add butter (1 stick) to a small saucepan on medium heat. Stir for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Pour the melted butter into a small-sized bowl. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes or until warm to the touch.
  • Add the cookie mix, melted brown butter, and two eggs in a medium-sized bowl. Mix with a spoon until thoroughly mixed. Scrape the sides of the bowl halfway through mixing.
  • Allow the dough to rest, on the counter, in the bowl for 30 minutes. This will allow the cookie mix to take on the butter and eggs.
  • Use a medium-sized scoop (2” diameter / 2.6 Tablespoons) and scoop the dough onto your cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Do not flatten the cookies.
  • Bake for 12 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and leave the cookies on the cookie sheet for 10 minutes, as they will continue to cook. After 10 minutes, remove the cookies from the cookie sheet and let them completely cool on a cooling sheet for 10 minutes or until cool.
  • If you use the same cookie sheet to make more cookies, place it in the refrigerator for 5 minutes so it is not hot when you place the next round of cookie batter on them.
