Sweet potatoes are a favorite in my house! They are highly nutritious as they are packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber, making them a great alternative to white potatoes. I especially love that they are rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin C. This orange spud is also extremely versatile. It is a great ingredient in both savory and sweet recipes. I love making this Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries recipe because it is so simple and my entire family loves it!

What do I need to make the Crispy Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries?

How do I make sweet potato fries in the Air Fryer?

This vegetarian air fryer recipe could not be easier. There are just 2 simple steps to creating this crispy, flavorful potato side dish.

Step 1: Prepare the Sweet Potatoes

Prepare the sweet potatoes by peeling them. Then, using a sharp knife, slice them into fries. I like to make mine about 3 inches long and 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. If you have a kitchen mandoline, that is a great way to slice your fries into the perfect French fry!

Next, place the sweet potatoes in a large bowl and toss with olive oil. Make sure that all fries are evenly coated with the olive oil.

Step 2: Air Fry Sweet Potatoes

Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray and place fries in the basket. If you can, place in a single layer. However, they can overlap if necessary, but make sure to leave some space for the air to flow as they cook. Air Fry on 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Shake fries at the 5-minute mark. Cook for additional 10 minutes or until crispy. Remove fries and salt to taste immediately. Serve warm and enjoy!

How do I serve the crispy fries?

These air fryer fries should be served immediately after making them for best flavor and maximum crispness. If you do have leftover fries and need to store them, place them in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They can be reheated in the air fryer for about a minute.

What do I serve with the homemade sweet potato fries?

This healthy alternative to regular fries is the perfect side dish as it can be served with just about anything! I like to make my Vegan White Bean Burgers with it. The kids love when I cook up some Jalapeno Turkey Burgers to go with the crisp fries. They are also a tasty addition along side Chicken Salad Wraps or Vegan Portobello BurgersWhatever your favorite sandwich is, these fries are likely to be a good accomapniement.

Can I add different spices to my fries?

Absolutely! This recipe contains simple ingredients that everyone will love. However, it is easy to spruce up with different seasoning. If you like hot and spicy, sprinkle some chili powder or a teaspoon of garlic powder on the fries after tossing them in the olive oil. Sometimes, I add in fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme because I tend to enjoy more savory flavors.

Do I have to use olive oil when I make this easy recipe?

No, you can easily change up the cooking oil. I used olive oil in this basic recipe because most people have it in their pantry. However, try tossing the fries with avocado oil or coconut oil to add a little more flavor!

What are some other ideas for this healthy side dish?

Cut them into different shapes: If you prefer, make sweet potato wedges or sweet potato chips instead of fries. Just take note that the cooking time will be slightly longer for the wedges and shorter for the chips.

Serve them as an appetizer: The fries also make a great appetizer or healthy snack. For an appetizer, place a small bowl of your favorite sauce in the center of a platter and surround it with the sweet potatoes.
