This Instant Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal is a delicious breakfast treat on a cold morning! 

The leaves are starting to change color and the mornings are now crisp and cool here in Maine. Fall has finally arrived! I love this time of year, but the chilly mornings do make it hard for my kids to get out of bed some days. So, today I decided to make them a nice hot breakfast to entice them out from under the covers. I made a delicious batch of Instant Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal and they were thrilled!

Here is what you will need to make this warm and hearty breakfast dish:

  • Steel Cut Oats
  • Brown Sugar
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Pumpkin Puree

Instant Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal Ingredients

It is super simple to make! Pour the water into the liner of the Instant Pot. Then, whisk in the brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice blend, cinnamon, and salt. Sprinkle the oats over the top of the liquid mixture. Do NOT stir it.

Cover the pot and turn to sealing. Place on "manual" and set the timer for 6 minutes. After the cooking cycle is complete, allow the pressure to naturally release. Then, stir in remaining ingredients: milk, vanilla, and pumpkin puree.Instant Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal

Replace the lid and allow to "keep warm" until the milk is absorbed. Stir the Instant Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal well and serve warm with favorite toppings!

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cup steel cut oats
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice blend
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree

Instructions

  • Pour water into liner of electric pressure cooker. Whisk in brown sugar, pumpkin spice blend, cinnamon, and salt. Sprinkle oats over the top. Do not stir.
  • Cover and turn the valve to sealing. Set pressure cooker to manual for 6 minutes.
  • After cooking cycle is complete, release the pressure completely and remove the lid.Stir in remaining ingredients. Replace lid and allow to “keep warm” until the milk is absorbed.
  • Serve topped with pecans, walnuts, maple syrup, or cream.

Pot in pot cooking method:

    Because oatmeal tends to create a “burn” message, cooking as “pot in pot” is a no fail method.

    • Place all ingredients in a bowl or pot that will fit inside the electric pressure cooker liner. Stir well.
    • Place trivet in the liner and pour the minimum required amount of water (as noted by the manufactureinto the bottom of the pressure cooker liner.
    • Put the bowl or pot containing to oatmeal mixture on the trivet.
    • Cover and turn the valve to sealing. Set pressure cooker to manual for 6 minutes.
    • After cooking cycle is complete, allow to naturally release for 10 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure.
    • Carefully remove the bowl or pot from the pressure cooker liner. Stir oatmeal well.
    • Serve topped with pecans, walnuts, maple syrup, or cream.

    What Toppings Can I Add?

    While the Instant Pot Pumpkin Oatmeal is delicious all by itself, it is fun to add some toppings! I like it topped with pecans and a little extra brown sugar. My kids like it with maple syrup on top. Cream, cinnamon, or any kind of nuts could also be added!
