If you find yourself bored with the traditional margarita then we have a drink for you. This blackberry margarita has bold and refreshing flavors that are the perfect combination of sweet and tart. Perfect for serving poolside or at a party you are going to love this delicious cocktail.
Combine the blackberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice together in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes. Remove from heat and mash the berries with a potato masher.
Turn the stove off and allow the flavors to steep for 10 minutes.
Pour the mixture through a very fine strainer into a glass jar.
Strain & Store: Refrigerate the syrup.
Margaritas
Prepare the blackberry simple syrup if you haven't already. Let it cool to room temperature before using or make it in advance and store in the refrigerator to cool.
Add sugar on a plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of 2 glasses, then dip the rims into your sugar mixture.
In a cocktail shaker, add some ice and combine the blackberry simple syrup, tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice. Cover, and vigorously shake until the outside of the shaker is very cold, for about 20 - 30 seconds.
Divide the margarita among prepared glasses. Top off with more ice. Garnish with fresh blackberries and lime wedges.
