Steps to Make State Fair Lemonade
Making state fair lemonade is easier than you think, and it's a crowd-pleaser for everyone. Here are the simple steps to preparing this summer beverage.
Step 1: Wash the Lemons
Ensure your lemons are thoroughly washed. This helps remove any dirt or pesticides that might be on the skin.
Step 2: Quarter the Lemons
Cut the lemons into quarters. This will make it easier to extract the juice.
Step 3: Muddle the Lemons
Place the quartered lemons into a container. Use a muddler-or any sturdy kitchen tool-to muddle the lemons until you've extracted as much juice as possible.

Step 4: Add the Sugar
Add 3 tablespoons of white granulated sugar to the container with the lemon quarters and juice. Give it a little shake to help dissolve the sugar in the lemon juice.
Step 5: Add Ice and Water
Fill the container ¾ of the way with ice. Then, add 1 ½ cups of water. The ice will chill your lemonade and help mix the flavors as it melts.

Step 6: Shake Well
Place the lid on the container. Make sure it's secure before shaking it. Shake the container well to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
Step 7: Prepare to Serve
Make a hole in the lid using a 5/16" hole punch or your preferred method. This hole should be just slightly larger than a straw. If you don't have a hole punch, you can use a sharp knife to make an X in the lid. Alternatively, some people even use a drill!
Step 8: Enjoy!
Insert a straw through the hole in the lid and enjoy your refreshing State Fair Lemonade!

Tips and Variations
- Storage: If you plan to store the lemonade for longer than a couple of hours, strain it and store it in a container with a lid. This way, it can last up to 5 days. Leaving the lemon peels in the liquid for too long can cause a bitter taste.
- Adjusting Sweetness: If you like your lemonade sweeter, feel free to add more sugar. However, it's best to start with 3 tablespoons and adjust from there.
- Hole Size for Straw: Ensure if you use a hole punch that it's at least 5/16" in size. This makes the hole just barely bigger than a straw, which is perfect.
Now you're ready to enjoy a delightful glass of State Fair Lemonade, any time you like!
