- 6 cups crispy rice cereal (pictured with cocoa crispy rice cereal)
- 1 (10-ounce) package of mini marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- Vibrant green candy wafer melts: I used Wilton's brand

How to make the Grinch Rice Krispies Treats
Now that you have got all of the ingredients together let's make this delicious Grinch Rice Krispies Treats.
Step one: Preparation is key
When it comes to making Rice Krispy treats preparation is key. It is a sticky treat that you don't want to get stuck to your baking sheet. Prepare a 13 x 9 baking sheet with wax paper and you also want to spray on some non-stick cooking spray.
Step two: Making the cereal bars
Next up you will want to melt the butter in a large saucepan over a low heat. Once you have melted the butter slowly you will want to add the marshmallows. Melting the marshmallows may take a little time and you will need to keep stirring the mixture. Once the marshmallows have melted then fold in the rice krispies and stir until all of the cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
Step three: Time to cool
Now you will want to prepare the mixture ready to chill. Using a buttered spatula or greased wax paper evenly press the mixture into a baking sheet and then allow it to cool completely. You can do this in the refrigerator or at room temperature, but it will take a little longer. Cut the cereal into 8 treats ready for decorating.
Step four: Decorating the rice krispy treats
The next step is the fun part, decorating. You will want to place the vibrant green candy melts in a microwave safe dish and then melt them on a high heat, Make sure you stir every 30 seconds until completely melted. The last thing you want to do is overheat these candy melts, so keep an eye on them. Spread melted candy over ⅔ of each krispie treat and decorate with one heart candy which will be the grinch's heart. Allow to dry completely before storing or packaging.

*Pro Tip: If the chocolate is too thick after melting, add in a fat; such as coconut oil, vegetable oil or even a little butter to thin it. Do NOT add water or it will cause the chocolate to break.
Recipe notes and tips
It is always a good idea to get some helpful tips and notes that will help make the recipe easier or remind you of things to think about. No matter how simple it is there will always be some extra guidance. I have a couple of suggestions and notes that will help you when making this recipe.
- If the candy melts have come out of the microwave a little thick, then you could add vegetable shortening or coconut oil in 1-teaspoon increments. You should look to add no more than 1 tablespoon and stir well. Do not add water as this won't help you get the desired consistency.
- Always stir often when you are melting the marshmallows. You will want them to combine with the butter and not clump together.
- Be careful when using the stove if children are helping. You may want to do this part for them.
Variations to try
When it comes to any recipe it is always good to hear of any variations and changes you can make. I have some suggestions that you might want to try.
- This method will work well for all sorts of themes and occasions. You could make red rice krispy treats for Valentine's day. You could also decorate them differently for all occasions. These are a great staple to have and looks super effective.
- Why not add some edible eyes to really elevate the Grinch look? You could also add some green edible glitter to make them really festive.
- Wrap them individually and use them as edible gifts or as party favors for when you have a Christmas party.
- If you can't get the green candy melts you couold use melted chocolate. White chocolate with green food coloring will look great and can be an excllent alternative.

FAQs
There will always be questions that people may have even though it may be seen as an easy recipe, so hopefully, I will have managed to answer some of the most commonly asked questions below.
What can you use instead of marshmallows when making these rice krispy treats?
Almond butter and maple syrup will work just as well to bind the rice krispies to make these treats. They also will taste incredible with a hint of different flavors. Marshmallows will always be the first option, but if you can't get them or are looking for pantry alternatives then almond butter and/or maple syrup will work well.
How should I store the Rice Krispy Grinch bars?
You should store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If you want to avoid them sticking together then you can individually wrap them in plastic wrap and then refrigerate them or place parchment paper between them. They will last in the refrigerator for up to five days. You can also freeze them. If you decide to freeze then make sure you individually wrap them so they don't freeze together.
I hope you enjoy your batch of these Grinch Rice Krispies Treats.
