How Long Does Frozen Agua Fresca Last?

If you're wondering whether you can prepare this frozen drink ahead of time, I wouldn't suggest it. Since the drink is frozen, it will quickly begin to melt once the ingredients are blended together. That's why it's best that you enjoy your Agua Fresca immediately after blending.

It's not recommended that you refrigerate the drink because it will begin to melt and become watered down the longer it sits in the fridge. It's also not a good idea to freeze the drink because it will become frozen solid.

Can I Make Frozen Agua Fresca Without a Tamper?

Using a tamper is the best way to ensure that your drink is blended smoothly. A tamper is a tool that is put into the top of a blender. When inserted, the tamper can be wiggled around to grab onto the remaining chunks of fruit while the drink blends.

The tool helps create a nice and smooth slush, but it's not absolutely necessary when preparing your own frozen drink. If you don't have a tamper, try blending for a minute, then remove the lid and use a spatula to scrape the sides and bottom of the blender to help loosen any chunks that are stuck. Then, blend another 2 to 3 minutes until smooth.

Frozen Strawberry Agua Fresca Recipe Ideas

See how simple it is to make a frozen strawberry water at home? Once you try this blended recipe, you'll be ready to blend up this refreshing drink all summer long! And with the help of these recipe ideas and substitutions, you can try different variations every time you make it!

  • Use frozen strawberries. Fresh strawberries are always the best option when making this drink because it yields the best results in flavor and texture. But if strawberries are out of season or you just don't have any on hand, you can use frozen strawberries instead. You can allow the strawberries to thaw and follow the recipe as-written. Or use the strawberries frozen and reduce the amount of ice you add to the blender.
  • Adjust the sweetness. If you prefer your drink to be on the sweeter side, you can add up to ¼ cup more sugar to the drink before blending. And if you want a tarter drink, try reducing the sugar by half or adding more strawberries to the blender before mixing.
  • Make it with a sugar substitute. Using real, granulated sugar is the best option when preparing this drink. That's because it helps keep the ice from seizing. But if you're hoping to cut down on the carbs in your drink, you can use a sugar substitute, if needed. Try replacing the sugar with monk fruit sweetener or coconut sugar for a sugar-free alternative.
  • Leave out the ice. It's easy to make a traditional Agua Fresca - just leave the ice out. While this slush recipe is delicious and refreshing, sometimes you want to enjoy a juice! When making a traditional strawberry agua fresca, combine the fresh strawberries, water, and sugar in a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Add some alcohol. Turn this refreshing mocktail into an adults-only cocktail with the addition of alcohol. You can replace some of the water in the recipe with white rum, tequila, or vodka for a quick and easy blended cocktail.
  • Mix in different flavors. It's easy to adjust the flavors of your agua fresca! Just mix in some unique ingredients to create a refreshing twist to the classic strawberry drink. Try giving the mocktail a spicy flavor by tossing in a few fresh jalapeno slices. Add a refreshing twist by muddling mint in the bottom of the glass before serving. Or toss some cucumber slices into the blender for another refreshing flavor addition.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 Cups Ice
  • 2 Cups Fresh Strawberries sliced
  • 1 Cup Water
  • ½ Cup White Granulated Sugar
  • Whole Strawberries optional garnish

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in the blender (except garnish) and blend for 1 minute or until no more chunks appear in the mixture.
  • You will need to help it along during the blending or it will want to freeze up. I use a tamper and hold it through the hole in the lid of the blender and stir it really well while it’s blending. You’ll get the hang of it.
  • Pour into glasses, top with a strawberry, if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

Tips:
• Make these when you’re ready to serve right away. They do not do well being kept ahead of time. I do not suggest refrigerating or freezing.
• Fresh strawberries are the absolute best for this recipe. However, if fresh just isn’t possible, frozen is fine as well. You have to reduce the ice if they’re not thawed beforehand.
• Really get in there when using the tamper. Don’t be shy about it. If you have a really nice blender that’s super powerful, you may not need to worry about this step.
• If you like it sweeter, add another ¼ cup sugar. However, when it’s sweeter, you can’t taste the strawberries as well.
• If you want it a bit more tart and less sweet, reduce the sugar by half OR add some more strawberries.
