How Do I Make This Garlic Rolls Recipe?

Homemade rolls are a delicious side dish for dinner! And since this recipe is so simple to make, you will add it to your regular meal plan once you try it. All you have to do is follow these quick and easy instructions for making your garlic herb bread.

Step One: Activate the Yeast

Combine 3 ½ tablespoons of butter, honey, water and milk in a microwave-safe bowl. Warm the ingredients in the microwave for around one minute until the mixture reaches 110 degrees Fahrenheit. If it needs to be warmer, continue heating the ingredients in 15-second intervals until the liquid is hot enough. Add the mixture to the bowl of your stand mixer and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let the mixture rest in the bowl for six to 8 minutes until bubbles form on top.

Step Two: Mix the Dough

When the yeast is ready, add the flour, ½ teaspoon of herbs de Provence, salt, garlic, and the beaten egg to the bowl. Mix the ingredients on low speed using the hook attachment until everything is combined. Then, turn the speed to medium and continue mixing for around 4 minutes until the dough is smooth.

Step Three: Allow the Dough to Rise

Grease a medium bowl with nonstick cooking spray or butter and transfer the dough from the bowl of your stand mixer to the greased bowl, forming the dough into a ball as you move it. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and place it in a warm place to rise for around 20 minutes, until the dough has doubled in size.

Step Four: Form the Rolls

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface when it is finished rising. Gently divide the dough into 16 even pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Line a baking sheet or dish with parchment paper and place each ball of dough in the prepared pan. Cover your pan with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the rolls rise in a warm place for around 18 minutes.

Step Five: Prepare the Topping

Add even more flavor to your rolls by making a butter topping. Combine melted butter with fresh rosemary and remaining herbs de Provence. Brush the mixture over the top of the rolls after they're finished rising.

Step Six: Bake the Garlic Rolls

Place the pan in the oven to bake for 20 to 24 minutes, until the tops of the rolls are golden brown. Serve the rolls warm.

Homemade Garlic Rolls Baking Tips

While making your rolls from scratch is easy. But that doesn't mean you can't use a few tips as you're baking! These helpful tricks will make preparing your freshly baked rolls a cinch.

  • Add more flour if the dough is sticky. When preparing the dough for your rolls in the stand mixer, you may notice that it's sticking to the sides of the bowl. If that's the case, simply add more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough is all pulled into the center of the bowl.
  • Use a scale to measure your dough balls. To ensure that all your rolls are the same size, using a digital scale as you roll the dough into balls is a good idea. Each dough ball should be around 60 grams or 2 ounces.
  • Top your rolls with beaten egg. In addition to spreading melted butter over the top of your rolls, you can also use beaten egg to give it a darker brown topping. Combine the beaten egg with your herbs and brush the mixture over the rolls before baking.
  • Add more garlic. If you want more garlic flavor in your rolls, try mixing some garlic powder or minced garlic into the butter topping before brushing it on top of your bread.Rosemary garlic dinner rolls in a basket.
