It is hard to believe that January is almost over. I have to admit that I have had a bit of a hard time getting back on track after the holidays. Yes, I had some valid reasons… I was sick, then my kids were sick, life was busy, etc. Then, I found myself having a general lack of motivation. Now, that we are heading into the second month of the year, it is time to put the excuses aside. So, I came up with a few easy ways to get back into a healthy routine.

Set Realistic Goals
Set realistic goals for yourself to achieve and work towards them. For example, if you are just getting back into running, a goal may be to run 3 miles straight by the end of a few weeks. One thing that always gets me motivated is signing up for a race, which serves as a goal. If I know I will be doing a half marathon at the beginning of the Summer it is a huge incentive for me to stay on track! If your goal centers around weight loss, avoid setting yourself up for failure by trying to lose a lot of weight rapidly. Slow and steady with small manageable changes will work best.
Start off by stocking your refrigerator full of healthy food choices. Get organized when it comes to your meal prep. Take a look at inspirational recipes from themediterraneandish.com and see if you can find some meal ideas that you will enjoy eating. Create a weekly meal plan for the week. Once you have this set, meal prep can make cooking so much easier. I take a block of time on Sunday and prep whatever I can for the weeknight meals. Chopping up fresh veggies and storing them in containers, so they are ready to go is one of my favorite ways to stick to eating healthy!
Schedule an Appointment
In the same way that meal prepping will force you to stay on track with your nutrition, having an exercise plan will help you stick to a fitness routine. Write it down in your calendar and treat it as an appointment that can not be missed.
Write it Down
Keeping a journal of your workouts and daily food intake can be motivational and inspiring. It is also a great key for accountability to write down what you have done for physical activity each day. Mainaining a food log of what you eat can be a powerful tool to keep your diet on track. They both will help track progress, which can keep you on the right path to reach your health and fitness goals.
So Tell Me…
