Recovery Week: Good for the Soul
I knew the stars had aligned when I looked at my Training Peaks workouts and realized that my Recovery Week had coincided with the kid's school vacation week! YES!!! I have been really struggling to get my workouts in while the kids are in school, so I was concerned about getting them done while they were on vacation without totally mucking up their "vacation". However, with 2 Rest days and minimal training, I am happy to write that I hit all of my workouts for the week, while managing to still do fun things with the kiddos!
-Monday: 2,100 yard swim, easy pace.... I did 4 x 500 with a 100 yard cool-down. The first 500 yards were miserable, but each one after felt better and by the time I was doing my cool-down, I wished I had more time in the pool!
-Tuesday: Rest Day. I took the kids to see Zootopia, which was really a good movie in case you have not seen it :-)
-Wednesday: I had been plotting my long run all week...where would I fit it in without having to do it on the treadmill or the weekend? The kids were invited to a Birthday party & the parents offered to pick them up & bring them home...Bingo!! I managed to get in a 9 miler during this time and made it back with enough time to shower! I had such a wonderful run, I felt great, the weather was beautiful, & I enjoyed almost every minute of it, I had a bad run the week before, so this was a reminder of how much I love to run. We need the bad runs to fully appreciate all of the good ones!
-Thursday: Rest Day/ Work Day
-Friday: Brick Day! I had been planning this all week as well. I had several hours of alone time, as the littles were attending an Audubon Nature Program, but I was not sure whether I would do it on the trainer/treadmill or finally leave my Comfort Zone & head outdoors on the bike. I went back and forth in my mind all morning until I dropped my kids off at the Audubon. I finally decided that I could not bear another ride on the trainer, so I got my bike off, pumped up the tires, greased the chain, put my Road ID on AND it started pouring rain! What? I started to head back inside to put my bike on the trainer, but decided to wait a bit. After about 30 minutes, the rain let up to a sprinkle and I headed out for a 35 mile ride. It's funny (or perplexing?) how much anxiety I had about riding on the road again, but within 10 minutes, it all dissipated and I was fine, rain & all. I had a great ride minus dropping my chain once, which was a bit frustrating, as I barely made it out of my pedals when I realized it happened! My bike has been a bit touchy since I had it completely overhauled after Ironman Mont Tremblant, so I will head back to the shop this week to see if it needs to be tweeked. However, I finished up with a 1 mile run and beautiful blue skies and was very happy!
-Saturday: 35 minute Recovery Run & 1000 yard Recovery Swim. We had a ton of family activities on Saturday, so I was not sure how I would make it to the pool for a short swim. The run was no problem, I just headed out the door for 35 minutes and did my thing! I was ready to blow off the swim even though it was short, I knew it would take over an hour by the time I drove to the pool, changed, swam, showered, etc. As I was contemplating it, the family decided it would be fun to all go the pool! So, it was late afternoon, but we all headed there! I ended up swimming 1500 yards while sharing the lane with my kids who did not want to leave! We had a blast!! This will definitely go down as one of my favorite workouts!
-Sunday: It was a spectacular day in Maine & I did a 45 minute recovery ride...out & back to one of my favorite places!
